The charging port on my Surface Book is not working. I cannot find specific charging port parts but saw just the keyboards on sale on ebay. Can I pair my screen with any type of keyboard or does it need to be identical to the one I have? I know the Nvidia GPU is in the keyboard but besides that is there anything else essential in that part of the Surface Book?

From what I can tell no,
based solely on the Surface’s reputation of being horribly unrepairable. If the gpu is IN the keyboard, then you need the OEM part.

I'm pretty sure he's asking about the base of the device which detaches from the screen, and not the physical keyboard itself.
i have personally tried using a separate keyboard from a surfacbook and it works completely fine as long as they are both the same display size. I was able to use a keyboard from a 13.5 in i7 surfracebook on my 13.5 i5. The connection they have is through bluetooth and USB 3.0. So yes you can use another keyboard if you can get your hands on one

Thank you, yes, I had bought a used one on ebay and it works fine. My experience with the surface book and Microsoft has been truly miserable this past 8 months. At first, I noticed the device would not charge when it was running … or it would charge only intermittently. Considering I was already on my third charger I thought that was it. A new one did not solve the problem but it seemed that moving the plug in the port would allow the device to charge - I questioned a bent or broken pin inside the charging port and after magnifying it found that to be true. I tried to bend it in place but it was inconsistent … eventually it broke off, hence the need for a new keyboard. In between I had been on/off with MS support, made sure everything is updated, all diagnostics run, etc.
I got a new keyboard, yet the problem persisted. The device only charged now if it was in standby and run extremely hot. After more time with MS support and more updates no change. The surface now began to run slowly, CPU at a constant 40%. I tried a few things and ended up uninstalling the Nvidia drivers and software and reinstalling it and, at this point, this seems to have fixed the problem. This made me really consider switching OS.

Did you possibly buy the laptop from a different country. It is sometimes possible that the charger is not built for certain voltages in other countries and using adapters can overheat the laptop. Could there also be physical damage at any point that could've damaged the battery inside the main tablet portion of the surfacebook

Have you tried undocking the keyboard base from the display? There is a similar connector on the bottom of the display to allow the display battery to charge.

The Question Is will the screen work with the same keyboard off a different machine? The hard drive is in the screen half, the big battie is in the keyboard half.

In general, the replacement parts of the same generation work, if it is from a different surface book generation, it won't.
For general funcion, it is not important, if you you have a base with graphics card and the replacement unit has no graphics or vice versa.
There are many replacement parts around at ebay which are from China. I cannot tell, if they work or not, but it may be that they only work partly. The bad thing is that microsoft itself does not offer the keyboard base separately and only offers a complete exchange unit for about 600 bucks or so.
