Which repair to choose

Hello everyone,

Today while working out in the gym i dropped a dumbell on the top left corner of my phone thankfully only the front glas broke.

Now my question is here in Canada apple is charging $369 CDN for screen replacement out of warranty mean while a good OEM screen $389 USD in ifixit.com. I am the type of person that likes to fix things myself but why buy it if apple replaces it for cheaper? Is there something im missing?

Go with Apple, iPhone X OEM screen is basically nonsense, you lose True Tone, water resistance, any following warranty and did not save much.

Thanks man i think you are right it's a lot of money to pay for screen replacement but at least i know my phone will back %100.

Cheap screens you will find on eBay or Amazon (or anywhere else for that matter) will not be OLED screens but LCD.

The quality of screen/image is much better with an original OLED screen so unless you have budgetary contraints, I would stick to an OLED replacement screen. Plus the phone will retain a much higher re-sale value should you want to sell it later.

As for DIY or Apple, for an iPhone X, I would stick to Apple if you want to maintain an OLED screen. The only exception is if Apple denies you service (i.e. damaged housing).

With a quick search on ebay i found screens from 130USD so it is common. You should check what you need for you.

In ifixit there one you see is with the Digitizer.

1 Opmerking:

The screens you found on eBay are LCD's and not OLED screens. The LCD panel is a terrible replacement option from reviews I've seen. The one iFixit it offers has an OLED panel. That's the difference. All replacement screens come with a digitizer.

I understand but glass only is what I need, however to remove the glass from the degitizer looks like suicide .

Yes so the difference in the price it is probably that. In the store threy can change only the screen. If you do it yourself the best option is with digitizer. If you have not done this before you might not want to mess with it because it is relatively easy to break the screen.
