Rear camera and flashlight not working after replacing battery

Hi

I recently replaced a battery and damaged the flex cable of the front camera assembly by removing the battery with the display still assembled. (moved the LCD sideways which teared 1mm of the flex cable in the bended corner).

As I didn’t have a spare flex cable, I reassembled the phone and noticed the rear camera and flashlight stopped working also.

I ordered a new front camera flex cable assembly, which fixed the earpiece speaker and front camera but the rear and flashlight still don’t work.

It’s not a water damage issue, it’s caused by assembling the phone I guess.

Can someone explain what happened and even better, solve the issue ;-)

Thanks in advance!

Your flashlight is on the same flex as your power button and volume buttons. Did you check that flex at all? Only reason is because it is under the battery but towards the top, and you may have accidentally damaged it during the battery removal. Also check to see if the socket that the power/volume button/flashlight plugs into isn’t bent. It’s better to grab a magnifying glass and check to make sure each lead on the socket is perfectly straight.

Hi Tyler, thank you very much for the quick answer. It could be possible that I damaged the flex underneath the battery. That can explain the flashlight, but not the camera problem I'm afraid. I already tried to unplug the camera, but the socket is in perfect shape, also the power/flash socket is perfectly fine.

Like Tyler said, the rear camera and flash are on the same circuit, (not on the same flex), a defective rear camera can cause the flash to stop working.

Tyler, you hit the nail on the head. That was going to be my answer and the most likely cause particularly considering the original repair was a battery replacement.

Of course the damaged flex can be replaced, its a little bit of a hassle but entirely doable.

Hi all

So I just replaced the volume/power/flash flex, even nothing was damaged underneath the battery.

The flex replacement had no metal brackets for the buttons, which is VERY annoying and time consuming to replace the silent/mute switch as its welded to the bracket.

Unfortunately the rear camera and flash are still not working. :-(

I tried the original battery again, disconnected the rear camera only, disconnected the volume flex separately, but all without success.

I’m out of solutions, anyone?

Regards

Pascal

Thanks Tyler, Chris and Jessica for the quick help! I’ll replace the flex assembly and see what the result is, but I have a good feeling it will work.

grtz Pascal
