Poor voice reception and muddy speech, Only on phone calls.

i recently got a 6S+, and i didnt notice any issues for the first month or so. but as of this week my outgoing voice chat on a phone call has been non existent.

in the standard handset mode im going to say 80-90% of my speech is not picked up, and what is picked up is very muffled.

in speaker mode its better, but its still muffled. i can at least have a conversation this way.

Voice memo and video both capture my voice perfectly. Siri understands me just fine too.

ive removed the phone from its case - no change.

ive swapped my sim out with another 6s+ and tested both phones while standing in the exact same spot. no issues on the other phone. this rules out a network issue.

i swapped between regular cell reception and wi-fi calling. no difference.

did a "reset all settings" with no change.

went through itunes "upgrade" in recovery mode with no change.

does this seem like a software or hardware issue to you guys? buying a new lightning/mic cable is cheap enough, but i really dont want to go to all the work of swapping that guy out.

Sounds like hardware to me.

You have two microphones on the lightning connector, that's why you are being heard perfectly in voice memo and muffled in call. Check to see if the line of holes at the bottom of the has pocket lint or is just dirty. If so clean the holes. If not you need to replace the lightning connector. Lightning connector has both of these microphones, so replacing the lightning connector should do the trick if cleaning did not.

if you see this, i do have another question for you.

ive got another 6S+ here that i stole some parts out of, and did a test run on removing the assembly a few nights ago. ended of tearing the flex cable on that one... anyways, i ran into an issue not covered in the guide here.

step 29 shows removing the antenna as simply pulling it out. on the phone i had, the antenna cable appears to be routed through a piece of the phones case body that is not present in your guide. newer case revision perhaps? anyways, without pulling the entire logic board, it doesnt seem possible to remove the antenna cable.

thoughts? if i run into it on my phone im repairing, im planning on just flipping the antenna board up and ouf of the way, rather than removing it.

Great question I completely forgot you'd run into that. That antenna runs from the loud speaker to the top of the logic board, so all you need to do is, unscrew the screws that hold down the loud speaker then lift up the loud speaker enough to move it to the side of the phone without breaking the antenna (should allow you to move the loud speaker and its antenna just enough to get the loud speaker out of the way) . The whole antenna does not need to be removed, it just needs to be out of the way so you can get the charge port up and out of the phone. I don't know why they have that on there, but that is a shortcut I take when swapping charge ports on the 6s. Let me know if you don't understand, and I'll try to explain it in a different way. Also remove your sim card to allow more room.

Having the same issue (low and muffled mic audio only on phone calls) so I purchased a new lightning connector module with the two microphones and installed it. This did not clear up the problem and now the speaker does not work. So the old work around of having to use speakerphone mode on all calls in order to be heard now does not work since I cannot hear with the speaker. I can hear through the small ear speaker but they cannot hear me unless I switch into the speakerphone mode. Perhaps I made a useless purchase and now created an additional problem. Any thoughts and suggestions?
