Why do I have to open my computer several times?

My computer crashes frequently. And everytime I want to open it it makes a beeping sound. I have to open and close it several times till I get the home screen. And when I work on it for a bit, it crashes and sometimes makes repeated beeping sounds. Can anyone help me? One of my 2GB rams are not being detected could this be the reason?

I had someone install 2 new pairs of 2GB rams and it did the same thing even though both Rams were detectable. Does that mean I need to upgrade my Rams to 4GB each or is the problem elsewhere?

Can you give us a better idea on the tones. Review this Apple T/N About Mac startup tones

door

For those asking about the type of tones. In most cases it is one long tone as I open the MacBook. This normally happens to me every time I open the MacBook and when it crashes it causes the long tone.

There are times however when the MacBook crashes it can causes a repeated shorter tone that happens every 5 seconds both after it crashes directly and when I decided to open it again. This phenomenon is less frequent than when I get long tones.

Your EFI chip is damaged:

  • One long tone while you hold down the power button: An EFI ROM update is in progress. This applies to Mac computers from before 2012.

If you are getting this over and over again the update is not able to complete. I suspect your system was also running Windows and under it a BIOS malware was downloaded that is preventing the system from updating. You will need to find someone with the needed skills to replace your EFI chip and you might need a new logic board given the other tone error which implies you have a RAM error thats more likely a bad socket.

  • One tone, repeating every five seconds: No RAM is installed. If you recently replaced or upgraded your computer's RAM, check to see if it was installed properly.

What update are you referring to in this case ?

The OS Update process - During the process the EFI malware definitions are updated as well as any other firmware updates like support for APFS boot volumes.
