I have hard drive problems, how to test drive to board cable

As title says hard drive problems, disc utility can't repair. I put it in an external dock and booted from install dvd and disc utility says all is well. This drive was brand new a month ago. I ran disc repair and am now in the process of installing os 10.6. If it installs, and it looks like it will, how do I test the hard drive cable and plug?

Thanks Walt

The only way to test the hdd cable is to replace it with a known good one and see if there is a difference.

Even a little shock can damage a spinning drive

you could try to erase the hdd and reinstall the os

You can find a hdd cable on eBay

I did get the OS installed on the same hdd, so that's definitely not the problem. I used a usb hd dock and booted from the install dvd. It boots and works from external dock.

Although it loaded, it now has the dreaded beachball. It freezes with the least provacation. I opened activity monitor and it showed hardly any cpu activity, like a .6 for system. If I click anywhere else it freezes and I need to force shutdown. There is no hard drive internally so I'm guessing it is just too much for it through usb. I'm 99% sure the root cause is the drive cable so I'll do that as soon as I can. Hopefully that cures its ills lol.
