Rare water damage question please help iPhone 4

I recently basically shattered the back glass of my iphone 4. I ordered a new one and a few minutes before i was going to install it "last night" i dropped the phone in the toilet for about 1-2 seconds. When i took it out the screen was black so I ran into the kitchen, made sure the screen wouldn't turn on, noticed it started getting warm, so i popped off the back and ripped the battery out (i just pulled it out without taking the screw out because Im purchasing a new battery anyways since it went into the water). Today i plugged it into my computer and itunes notices the iphone and say it needs to be restored. i tried to restore it but it failed.

So I am ordering the new battery but what else would I need. The phone didnt glow or anything just got warm really quick. I will take it apart and clean everything but do you believe it will work? will a new display assembly fix the problem of nothing showing up, and why wont it restore? and my last question, For the verizon iphone 4, does it take the same AT&T battery for 24.95?

The heating up of the back is most likely caused by the battery being shortened out. Those batteries and water do not like each other at all....

Don't look for specific points just clean it as described in the guide. Corrosion usually manifests itself as white powdery substance on your board.

Attempting to turn an iPhone on after getting water on it is a bad idea :( . If you did it may have fried the logic board as well.

i did not try turning it on, 24 hrs later i plugged it into my laptop to see if it would find the phone, it did but gave me what sounds like the DFU error. I had the phone in rice with the back off and the battery out for 2 days, now I am currently taking it apart looking for corrosion, and where people recommend to look really closely?

I'd clean everything..gently but thoroughly, you can't see the damage the water has done for quite some time, the clean will prevent damage from happening further down the line. as oldturkey says, one thing at a time.
