HP 15-g073nr Won't power on with power button connected

Hi, all. Have a 15-g073nr I replaced the screen on, and have spent the past 3 months, off and on, rewiring it all to where it should be. Screen works great, but now an annoying issue. Once I reassembled it all, it wouldn’t power on with the power button. If I disconnected the top cover (around the keyboard), so it was “floating”, and I put a finger down under the power button pcb, and pushed the button from the top, it would power up. Or, if I partially inserted the ribbon cable in the motherboard, and then removed it, it would power on. As long as the ribbon cable stays in the slot, it powers back down. I think the leads on the pcb were a little damaged, so I replaced the power button board & ribbon cable (one unit) and just installed tonight. Same deal. If I insert the ribbon cable fully, the power button doesn’t work. But, if I slide the end of the cable partially in and remove it, it fires up and acts normal. Running out of ideas.
