Broken phone button after phone turned on during screen removal.

Hi, I was removing my screen today to do something completely irrelevant to my home button. As I was removing it, I accidentally pressed the power button with the palm of my hand. Upon powering on, I was greeted with a Touch ID error message- implying that the home button had broken. I had figured that I was out of luck and that I had broken something hardware wise until I saw a youtube comment saying something along the lines of “removing the screen while power is on will cause a home button error”. I just wanted to know if anyone has experienced this and if there is some sort of fix that I can try before I order a new part and lose touch id. Thank you!

Touch ID occur occurs usually when the home button is not connected (or one of the two screen cables not being connected for the home button). It should fix itself after you unplug the battery (reseat screen cables) and plug it back in or turning the phone off and on again.

Hi Eli,

First of all, there are multiple things with the home button error. After reviewing your comments. I am assuming you never worked on screen and near the home button flex. Which means home button flex which is on screen might be good.

There are 3 flex which is attached to the motherboard from screen. The two flex which are together check for any damage on a shorter flex. That would be possible damage.

Disconnect the battery and reconnect and making sure every connection is seated right.

Note: Home button can't be replaced as its pair with your mother board. Only apple can fix it but relax it doesn't seem to be in your case.
