Touch screen not working on iPad Pro 12.9” (1st gen)

So my brother and I were changing a cracked screen on the iPad Pro last night and everything was going smooth. We were following the steps and when we plugged ribbon cables in we forgot to put the plastic tool in separating the battery.

There was a tiny tiny spark and so we figured the worst which was correct. We assembled everything back together and behold the touch screen didn’t work. The iPad powers up and the screen will turn on but you can’t do anything.

My question is, is there a component that I can purchase to replace whatever we fried to get the touch screen working or did we just ruin this iPad beyond repair.

I purchased it from a friend for 150 dollars because it had a cracked screen. The I purchased the new screen for 200 dollars. So I’m 350 dollars invested. Just trying to figure if it’s salvagable or I’m out on my money.

I have ipad pro 12.9 .

Just got back from a flight and realised that my Ipad pro screen is not working at all.

It was perfectly working in the flight and all of a sudden the touch not working.

Tried rebooting, formatting as well, but it got stuck at a point, where everything is done, but now the screen says, press continue to finish.

How do I press the Finish tab on the screen.

Please help

Sometime touch problems when I types numbers and letters, sometimes pressuring on key-pad then write.

Wow, I am very surprised that it even boots up after your circumstance. Unfortunately there is not much you can do. I would be 110% sure everything is connected tightly, but if that is the case already you might be kinda screwed. You likely fried a component on your iPad’s Logic Board. Replacing said component would require microsoldering and microsoldering is not for beginners by any means. A new Logic Board is near $220 and would probably out of your budget to get a new one. Bummer!

Thank you for your response Aaron. The 220 dollars wouldn’t be out of my price range, but I would just be worried about the process of actually doing the repairs myself, considering how the last run my brother and I did.

It’s frustrating cause we originally had everything working properly we just had to assemble everything, but one of the ribbon cables that plugged in on the left edge of the screen popped off. So we had to disassemble everything again to plug it back in and we were putting it back together we forgot that separator for the battery.

I’m wondering if I purchase that component if I could have a professional install everything for me. I’m just wondering what the labor cost would be. At that point I may invested so much money I could have just gone out and bought a brand new one.

Oh the dilemma. Thank you again for your response Aaron.

No problem! You could possibly send your iPad in to @refectio and have Minho take a look at your iPad to confirm my suspicion. Minho can then perform the necessary repairs/replacements professionally. Hopefully Minho will stop by and provide you instructions on how to send in your iPad and/or correct me on this statement.

A new iPad Pro starts at $800 so you still have a ways to go before you "lose" money. A micro-solderer should be able to repair the blow component, assuming the issue is the filter right next to the connector.

As for repair, look locally for a reputable shop that does micro-soldering repairs. Ideally, you want to find someone local but good workmanship trumps locality. There are many shops worldwide that do this so you shouldn't have any problems finding them. Talk to them and ask how they do their work (and how much). Focus on good practices like proper cleaning of boards once completed, properly testing and sealing the device etc.

If you can't find one locally, then consider mail-in repair. There are several reputable micro-solderers patrolling this forum. You can also click on my profile to learn more about my services, at the very least, it can serve as a data point.

I fixed my problem (iPad Pro 11)! Goto Setting -> General -> Accessibility -> Touch Accommodations, Turn on Touch Accommodations. Leave everything else in the options alone. All my touch issues gone!
