Repair information and guides for the iPhone 6 that was released on September 19, 2014. Model Numbers: A1549, A1586, and A1589

No sign of turning ON. (not sure if it turns on or not)

I’ve been asked to repair an iphone 6 w/ no idea on what’s wrong with it. But here are the facts to far:

  • The battery’s fine (sufficient voltage when tested with a multimeter)
  • The device draws a little less than 1amp when connected to a charger (but no charging indicator in the LCD even after 1 hour of charging).
  • The device is recognized by my PC when tethered via USB (I am not sure if this indicate the device is running)
  • The LCD never lit up at any time during those above procedures.

So What I’m trying to find out is, if the LCD is the culprit (since the phone is detected by my PC, and the phone drawing about 0.88 amps when connected to a USB tester which is about the same current draw when charging a non fast charging phone. (normally 0 amp when the motherboard is faulty)


I hope somebody could shed some light here.

Could be a no backlight or no image issue on this phone.

To check for no backlight issue connect a replacement screen. Then plug battery back in and attempt to power it on.

Then shine a flashlight on the screen. Might need to angle the flashlight to see a dim apple logo on the screen.

If you do see a dim apple logo it means the backlight circuit needs diagnosing and repair which is board level repairs / microsoldering work.

Might have been damaged from previous repair so also good to check components near screen connectors and the connector itself for any physical damage.

But do you think that if the PC does recognize the phone then the phone must be running?

Yes that means that the phone can turn on and boot up normally.
