iPhone touchscreen stops working only in London

This is very strange and I first thought it was a coincidence but after dealing with it for two months it absolutely is not. I have an iPhone 7 Plus, the screen has previously been replaced by a third party. Sometimes, randomly, the screen stops responding to touch. I can still do everything else, the home button works, I can play music/videos still using the buttons on my bluetooth headphones etc. but the screen won’t respond to touch until I restart the phone.

What’s weird is that this ONLY happens when I’m in London (or maybe the UK), and doesn’t happen when I’m out of the city/country. I travel often and have been to Indonesia, Germany, Portugal and Croatia in the past two months and this issue doesn’t happen at all when I’m overseas, but it will happen as soon as I land in London (literally it will stop responding when I’m in the airport). When I’m in London this happens every twenty minutes or so, more often when I’m outside (it doesn’t tend to happen inside my house).

Any ideas on what this might be or if it’s fixable?

Hmmm, I don’t believe your location has anything to do with, frankly, but I’ll take a leap of faith and run with it :>).

So my first question would be; where is your home base…London or elsewhere?

If you are not from the UK, what do you differently when you go to London? Do you use a country specific SIM card, for example? If so, then consider a different approach such as a different cell provider or using whatever national carrier you normally use and pay for Roaming fees (just to test).

If you are from the UK, then it’s probably just a probability thing, you’re in the UK more often and have a higher chance of seeing an intermittent behaviour while your there. I would just say replace your screen with a better quality screen.

It’s super hard to believe and very hard to explain haha. I’m based in London and it’s a UK sim, and I use this sim when I travel too. Probability generally makes sense BUT in August I spent a week in Portugal with no issues, then three days in London where it happened multiple times, then two weeks in Indonesia with no issues, a day in London where it stopped working loads of times, then a weekend in Munich with no issues, and now back in London today where it has started happening again. Time for a new screen I guess. Thank you for your help!

That's extremely interesting. Another speculation, has there been any pattern around it acting up around certain buildings or locations in London, or while it's charging? I know that low quality chargers can often cause touchscreens to not work properly. Possibly some radio or electrical conditions could be causing interference? I'll agree with everyone else that you should just replace the screen, but I'm very curious what could be the cause.

It could be due to the pressure due to altitude in London. If you go to a place with a different air pressure, it could perhaps do something to a faulty screen? (That is a complete guess, but it could be right). What isn’t a guess is that is is unexpected behaviour, and would be fixed with a new screen. The third party should replace your screen for free as the one they gave you was faulty
