Can I use a late 2013 A1398 Display? Will it cause damage if used

I have a Mid 2012 A1398 I bought from Craigslist. It has a new late 2013 display vice the mid 2012 display. The backlight fuse is blown on it as well. I installed the screen on another mid 2012 I have as the screen on that one is damaged. It blew the backlight fuse on that one as well. Is the problem the screen or should I look at the LVDS cable?

Thanks

Brian

Hi Brian,

The screen for the late 2013 is different from the mid 2012, so the communication is different as well, which explains the blown fuses. If you need a display replacement for the mid 2012, buy a screen for the MacBook Pro retina 15” Mid 2012 or early 2013 (a1398). these parts match.

The Late 2013 and mid 2014 are the same and match, but do not match with other model. same goes for the 2015 model, only 2015 displays will work correctly on it.

Thanks. I was going to use it for my mid 2014 MacBook Pro. Just wanted to make sure it would not damage that one as well. I have bought a mid 2012 on eBay replaced the blown fuses (those Apple logic boards need a lot of heat, set the hot air station to 425 to get that fuse off) one works perfect and the other one turns on and shuts off immediately. Guess I must have damaged something else while repairing it.
