Won't boot up bad I/O board?

My MacBook Pro has a bad battery connector possibly. Thats what I initially suspected and hoped for. Or, it could be bad I/O board or bad logic board.

It was working fine when I shut it off one day. I came back some days later and it just wouldn’t power on again. It has a newer battery and charging cord. The thing lights up when I attach the cord.

The first pin on the battery connector has no continuity but the rest of them do. I did leave it plugged in constantly when it was working. I’m wondering if I burned something out in the battery connector. A new one is cheap but I got discouraged after someone I asked on this website said that it was likely a logic board problem and supposedly my system had that type of failure frequently.

It’s a MacBook Pro 15" non-unibody model A 1211.

I could try replacing the battery connector if it might help.

What do you think? might it be worth trying?

I changed the icon to the machine you said you have.

Let’s get some information first:

Here is the pin out for the Mag-Safe:

Pin 1GND (0 V)

Pin 2V+ (14.5 / 16.5 / 18.5 / 20 V DC)

Pin 3Charge control pin

Pin 4V+ (14.5 / 16.5 / 18.5 / 20 V DC)

Pin 5GND (0 V)

What is the wattage of your Mag-Safe? What are your readouts?

When you plug it in what color is it and does it change within 10 seconds?

Try an SMC reset:

Connect the power adapter to the Mac. On the MacBook / Pro's keyboard, hold down the Shift+Control+Option keys and the Power button at the same time. Release all keys and the power button at the same time – the little light on the MagSafe adapter may change colors briefly to indicate the SMC has reset.
