Should install an airport card on a power mac G4?

I want to network my old G4 with my PC and possibly other computers mostly for educational purposes. My router has only one Ethernet connection so would it be better to install a wireless (airport) card or use an Ethernet hub? Thanks.

Maybe we need to clear up some things first. You have a DSL modem that connects to your telephone lines or cable. Into that you can plug a router. The router allows multiple internet connections. You can have a multiple outlet router (most have 4-5 ethernet ports. You can have one that also has wireless capabilities. If you go wireless, you will be limited to the speed of the Airport card. If you hard wire into the router you gain full speed. You can also have a combination of wireless and hardwired connections.

I use a SMC8014WG-SI Gateway modem. I believe it has wireless capabilities because it has an antenna. So, I would get a router so I can split the signal to both or more computers and I can still install a wireless card for extra speed? I would also do it for the learning experience because I'd like to learn more about upgrading and repairing Macs and PCs and find work doing so. Thanks.

The SMC8014WG-SI Wireless Cable Gateway combines a cable modem, one port router and 802.11b/g wireless access point. This means that you can connect a hard wired ethernet connection to one computer and also have one wireless hook up. Your modem has a maximum 38 Mbps through put. Your 10/100 ethernet port can utilize all of it. However modem ratings such as as 802.11b (11 Mbps) or

802.11g (54 Mbps). So your b modem will only use a third of the available bandwidth.

Ethernet is Faster. I Would use Ethernet if you don't mind the wires.

Depending on distance ethernet is less expensive and more secure.
