MacBook will not power up

My laptop (MacBook pro 15 inch late 2011 edition) won’t power up anymore; resetting SMC, trying other adapter, etc doesn’t work. The light on the adaptor is green, not orange, so it’s not charging. When I press the battery indicator button on the side of the laptop when the adaptor is not connected, the battery seems completely drained.

I think the battery is defective - but I find it strange that the computer won’t turn on with the adaptor connected. Before I order a new battery and change it I wonder if a faulty battery is really the cause. Any thoughts? Suggestions highly appreciated!

Disconnect the battery from the logic board and plug in magsafe..the board should start by itself, no need to press power button. If it starts then it's probably a battery issue, if not something is faulty on the logic board side.

Thank you. I opened the MacBook and disconnected the cable between battery and motherboard (can't get the battery out because I lack a Y1 screwdriver, but I think disconnecting the cable should be enough) and unfortunately the laptop didn't start when plugging in the adaptor. So, I guess not a battery issue. Thanks for your advice.

Unfortunately yes, that proves it's not a battery issue. Any further testing would need more advanced technical skills since it's likely a component repair is needed or a logic board replacement.
