Is there a way to run MacBook Pro Function Key without battery connect

I have a MacBook Pro late 2016 Function Key model that was recently used by a student to do lots of important assignments & research - but it's not booting any more - instead, displaying a low battery error briefly even though the (tested working) charger is plugged in.

It is going to Apple Store for "repair" (ie replacement) under warranty, but is there a way to force the MacBook Pro to operate without the battery connected to the logic board - even if it's only in disk transfer mode?

I have opened up the base cover and disconnected the connectors linking the battery to the logic board, but it refuses to power on and display anything when the power button is engaged with the battery disconnected and the power charger is connected in either of the 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports.

Have Apple really made these lemons so that they need a working battery installed in them to work? This bodes poorly for MacBook Pro 2016 & later users as batteries eventually get depleted in only a few years... or sooner, if the battery is defective... and the data is locked up in encrypted, proprietary storage modules that put Apple's profits over people's access to their own data.

No pro would want to use these things... pro's know they need redundancies & backups when isht inevitably hits the fan.

@citizen7 - Most Pro's are still waiting for the REAL MacBook Pro to show up ;-}

The current system is mis-marked it's really a MacBook on steroids not a Pro's Pro! Missing the features a real Pro would expect to have in their system.

Maybe Apple will wake up and give us what we need... It's looking like HP is aiming for the MacBook Pro market!

The systems which they just intro'ed look dam nice! 4 USB ports 2 USB-A 2 USB-C, serviceable RAM & storage! Support for 32 GB of RAM and i9 & Xeon CPU support!

A REAL Pro's laptop!!

Sorry to say you really don't want to alter your system otherwise you run the risk of Apple voiding your warranty!

If you need to get stuff off I would recommend you connect a second Mac to yours and then setup yours into Target Disk Mode so you can copy off your stuff. macOS Sierra: Transfer files between two computers using target disk mode
