iPad screen 'ghost touching' even worse after attempted repair

My iPad would sometimes sporadically ghost touch the screen during use. After searching I tried following the advice on Digitizer activating itself after digitiser replacement. Unfortunately it seemed to make things worse with the screen now very frequently ghost touching. I also must have not put the home button back on correctly as it won't click when pressed like normal. I put Kapton tape on the edges of the digitizer and then replaced the adhesive pads. I didn't remove the LCD panel so a small part of one of the adhesive pads had to go over the cable connecting the digitizer to the LCD but it didn't look like that would cause an issue. Did I put too much tape on? Is there something else I should have been watching for that could cause worse ghosting? Thanks for the help!

I have bought several ipads that have had a new digitiser installed and each time it was the ribbon that had a break in it...the plastic is very brittle and is only safe to be bent once or twice....it must be under the LCD not on top where it will be pressed into a tight bend when the digitiser is laid on it....sometimes the break is hard to see but using another digitiser solved it every time..people are buying cheap digitisers and doing it themselves....cheap ones are cheap for a reason....bend only once or twice

Was the ghost touch happening on an Apple original, non-repaired iPad digitizer or did it start occurring after a repair?

Low cost digitizers suffer from ghost touching, even with tape applied so this could explain your issue if the screen was ever replaced in the pats. If the digitizer is original, then tape shouldn't be necessary and it is possible that the panel is simply just defective.

Now if this device was ever repaired, dropped or came into contact with water, then there could be other issues but I'll wait for your feedback on that.

I got it from a friend who did say he had repaired something on it but I'm not sure what. Very well could have been the digitizer, I'll have to check with him and see. If he had replaced the digitizer would a simply better quality one possibly be the fix? I don't believe it had any issues like water damage, he would have warned me about that when he sold it.

In that case, a better quality digitizer should do the trick.

door

Yep, confirmed that the digitizer was replaced. When I get a new one do I need to put the Kapton tape on it even if it's higher quality? And if so does it need to be on all four sides or just the bottom by the home button?

door

On the mini it was REQUIRED but I haven't seen the need to do so on the iPad Air. That said, I buy the highest quality digitizer I can find.

Other than the one sold by iFixIt is there a brand or site you recommend for quality ones? I've been burned too many times by crappy replacement parts from what appear to be reputable sellers on Amazon and eBay.

Hi Lucas,

It sounds like your iPad display is having symptoms of false touch, and I'm happy to help. If you haven't already, please try restarting your iPad firstly.

I had encountered iPad ghost typing issue with my device before, but it randomly occurred, I had thoroughly solved the issue by following some of these tips provided by lifewire, I do not know how these tips will be applicable to your case, but I hope that this can help you some way.

You can just try out these methods straight away, back up your iPad before proceeding if there's anything important on your iPad.

I've tried the restart but haven't reset to factory settings. I will attempt it and let you know if it works.

Yeah, factory reset didn't work. Guess I'll be getting a new digitizer! Thanks for your help tho!

So sorry that I didn't help you, hope that you'll figure out a way soon. Good Luck!

If I replace the screen ( mine is broken ) will that stop the ghosting

My iPad Pro has been suffering from ghost clicks. No amount of resetting would fix it. It wasn’t random, but always on the left side, where the lightning port is.

Thrn I read a posting elsewhere that described how they had a similar problem that only happened when they used it while charging. So I gave it a go. Sure enough, no problems when not charging. So I tried swapping the (third party) charging cable.

The problem seems to be cured.

I just posted on an ipad4 topic what worked for me. Counter-intuitive solution! But there seems to be lots of causes for ghost touches on ipads.
