Why does my 5s continue to bootloop?

Hey guys,

Super confused. I replaced a display on an iPhone 5s (A1457). The old screen was cracked.

I put in a new one, and it started to bootloop. I reset, checked the cable, and sensor, etc...

The interesting thing is that the screen works perfectly when it is not snapped to the body of the phone. If it just lays across the body (not screwed or snapped in) it functions perfectly.

What should I do?

The front (selfie) camera ribbon cable is shorted. Replace that assembly and you should be good.

Hey Kelly,

That would help even though the screen functions well without being set into place??

The cable typically fails when the screen is installed. That is the position it was subjected to stress, that is the position it is most likely to fail in. They are not expensive.

I would check first if the phone still bootloops with front camera and home button unplugged.

If it still does then it is another issue.

I am suspecting it's one of the few little SMD components right above battery connector which can be easily damaged or pried off when you unplug the battery.

Any of those components missing or damaged may cause random rebooting because it can't read the battery information properly.

I agree with this approach as well. I do so many, I forget most people don't sit in a room of spare parts...
