BIOS detects hard disk, OS does not ; why is this happening?

Original Logic Board on unit failed, I replaced it with another one from failed HDD, same firmware number (8.76), BIOS detects the "repaired" drive, but when machine boots OS can't see the drive, won't let me access data in the drive. It's a Seagate Hard Disk Model ST330015A. If I try loading Ubuntu it will recognize HDD, even tell me what is in the drive (Music Files) but I can't mount the drive, much less access the files. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated, this drive has about three years' work of converted vinyl records to mp3 format (about 20GB), and the backup I have appears to be corrupted; PLEASE HELP!!!

What is the error message you get when you try to mount the hard drive? By the way, you should have backed up your data if it was this important.

Older versions of Ubuntu will not read any "Dirty" NTFS volumes. From my personal expierence, it seems like the newer ones do, so make sure the version of ubuntu that you are using is 10.10.

Is this an external or internal?

You can also try using UBCD4win, it is a boot DVD drive that boots into Windows XP.

,Go on BIOS setting...look for the setting for your HDD... for sure, the HDD is set to "AHCI" change this to "IDE or COMPATIBILITY"...
