Repair iPhone 5 cable

Hi, during the repair of the iPhone cable, with heat-shrink sheaths, the plastic part has deformed, if I connect the cable to the electric current what happens?

Hello Piero,

While you certainly cannot expect your cable to be reliable, I would not regard it as dangerous. Just don't ever use a power supply (the white cube) which has been damaged or modified. That would carry the risk of a fire. So long as you are using an original or good name brand power supply the faulty cable is not going to cause an explosion.

Anyway, those 5Watt Apple power supplies wouldn't really go off with much of a bang even if the did blow. I had a 15W Samsung fast charger adapter blow up about 10 feet from me last year. It wasn't much, in fact by the sound alone I though someone nearby just dropped an iPad screen on the floor. Didn't notice for a couple minutes that the Samsung adapter was in two pieces and blackened.

FYI that Samsung adapter came from a Samsung USA authorized vendor. It was not a knock off.

so if I connect the cable to a USB socket, nothing should happen?

the only part that is damaged is the plastic part on the cable.

If you are using a UL-Certified USB power supply, or the USB port on just about any computer, these devices are designed with the possibility someone will connect a bad (short-circuited) cable to them one day. Nothing is going to blow up.

The pictures don't really help...they are too small and not enough resolution to really see anything. Perhaps you can post better pictures.

However if it's just the outer casing of the USB connector, I wouldn't worry about it. The outer metallic shield of the connector is connected to ground and the 5V going through it is on the inside pins so it's not dangerous to you personally.

There is no risk of explosion?

Not based on what I can see.

I just looked at your new pictures. I wouldn't worry about it exploding or anything.
