iPad Air 1 not charging after replacing digitizer.

I replaced the digitizer on an iPad Air 1. The iPad shows that it is charging and the tone is heard when plugged in, still it does not charge above 40%. I am using an official charger and cable that works on another iPad. This is not the first digitizer that I have replaced. I have reset and downloaded the most current iSO. I followed the ifixit instructions. I am at end on what to try next. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I was able to find the answer to the problem. I decided to totally disassemble the iPad. Upon doing so I found that a very small piece of digitizer glass was between the battery connections. It must have went in there when I place the isolator pick in. I reassembled the iPad and now it is charging.

There are a few possibilities here:

  • If you didn't isolate the battery when performing the repair, you may have damaged the charging circuit on the logic board.
  • You may have dislodged some of the small components near the battery connector. One of them (FL7500) allows the gas gauge IC inside the battery to communicate the charge state to the CPU. If that one gets knocked off, it could be causing your issues.

Minho, after replacing iPad Air battery and digitizer I am having a problem charging. I suspect it could be one of the 2 problems you listed. What would be the solution to these 2 problems?

@daltmann The problems I outlined require micro-soldering repairs and are not typically DIY repairs.

Minho, would replacing the logic board fix it?

door

@daltmann replacing the logic board is like replacing the device. The cost is pretty similar to buying a used device.

It charged fine before the replacement? Was the battery disconnected before the repair or did you leave it screwed in?

The digi would not cause the charging issue. First thing I would do is check for any damage to the battery or chargeport flex. It's easy to slip and nick these during the repair. If there is no signs of damage I would then try a new battery. If it charging at all then it's not likely the chargeport that's the issue.

Had the same problem it would only charge to 20 percent and then die.

opened it back up and made sure the battery was seated correctly and then it started charging correctly. The logic board has to seat properly over the new battery.
