Water Damaged, plug in to wall/computer and starts to Vibrate?

Hey,

I just received this iPhone 3G from a friend who dropped it in the water so she gave it to me to try to fix it. When I plug it into a computer or wall charger the phone just starts to vibrate. It does not turn on or anything. But the computer does recognize that the device is plugged in.

I read somewhere that it could be that the battery. Does anyone know what this is a sign of so I know what I need to repair to get it working?

update: I got a new battery and installed it. After installing and putting the iPhone back together i experienced the same issue with no activity but the phone vibrating none stop. I took the screen off again and after closely looking at the vibrator I noticed that there is some mildew/rust/burnt on the logic board where the vibrator is. Oh well, I guess there is no salvaging this thing.

anyone know of the best places to sell a broken iphone? Craigslist, ebay, etc..? and how much is the "normal" value?

It all really depends, if you know the cost of the parts that are salvageable then maybe you can calculate

Well, the first thing with watered damaged electronics is NOT TO TURN THEM ON!!, and not to plug them into anything. Unfortunately, any damaged you created by docking it, etc., is probably not reversible if it got to the logic board.

First thing you should do is, leave it in a bag of uncooked rice overnight, that'll dry it out.

Then, open it up and see if you can find anything damaged or any residue.

I actually got the device about 2 months after she had originally dropped it in water. I am not sure exactly what she did after it happened but I could guess that she tried to turn it on and plug it in within that time. When I received it I put it in a bag of rice for 3-4 days (I know, to late but was in no rush to fix it so what the heck). Then I opened it and I couldn't see any visible damage or residue. I only took the screen off so I haven't taken off the Logic Board and seen under that.
