My LG washing machine stops half way through a wash and buzzes!

Hi there,

I put a large load on this arvo on my LG Fizzy logic too loading 6.5kg #WF-T657.

About 10mins into the 35min cycle it stopped and started bizzing!! No error code came up. I stopped it straight away and took the clothes out and drained it manually. I tried running another small load and the same thing happens. I tried once more with no clothes in and still the same thing. Has anyone else had this issue or have any idea where to start looking? Cheers

I'd first unplug it from the wall for five minutes to allow it to reset.

Cause 1

Lid Switch Assembly

The lid switch assembly prevents the washer from spinning when the lid is open. If the lid switch assembly fails, the washer may stop mid-cycle. To determine if the lid switch assembly is defective, use a multimeter to test each of the lid switches for continuity. If a lid switch does not have continuity, replace it.

Cause 2

Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly

The door lock secures the washer door shut during operation. Once the washer door is closed, the washer can begin operating. If the washer door is not latched shut, the door switch prevents the washer from operating. If the door lock is defective, the washer may stop mid cycle. The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. Inspect the door lock for damage. If the door lock is damaged or does not latch properly, replace it. To determine if the door lock has failed electrically, consult your washer’s diagram and use a multimeter to test each of the door lock switches for continuity. If one of the switches does not have continuity, replace the switch.

Cause 3

Water Inlet Valve

During the rinse cycle, the water inlet valve opens to allow water to enter the wash tub. If the water inlet valve fails, the washer will continue waiting for the water to enter the washer, causing it to stop mid-cycle. To determine if the water inlet valve is defective, use a multimeter to test it for continuity. If the water inlet valve does not have continuity, replace it.

Thanks for that mate.

It it tricky to actually test the lid switch as it is a top loader with a little magnet at the front and the actual switch is in a completely sealed electrical board however the switch works fine throughout the rest of the cycle so I don’t think it’s that.

As for door lock motor and switch, it is a top loader so it doesn’t have a door lock.

I have checked the water inlet valve and all seems normal.

The fact that the buzzing only happens when the cycle tries to start the spin makes me think it could be a relay buzzing or something is not letting the motor go to spin speed. Would any of thanks sound like it could be the relay or would you know where else to look for the buzzing sound? Thanks

Hi @scottxbird ,

Don't know your washer but can you manually step the washer to start directly in spin mode to see if it buzzes then?

Looking at a picture of the main pcb it appears that there is a relay on it.

Just wondering if the relay only operates to change the motor drive over from agitate to spin.

Also it may be that the buzzing sound is a relay to operate the pump. Does it buzz before the water is pumped out or does it buzz after the water has been pumped out to begin the rinse or spin?

On cold mornings my washer, not a LG, buzzes when it goes to pump out before the rinse or spin cycles but after a few 'buzzes' it stops and pumps OK. Doesn't do it when it is warm so put it down to a sticking relay.

Just a thought

Try to take off the drain hose from the wash machine and take out(get rid off) the dusts or clots from the inside(hole) of the drain hose connection part of the machine(If necessary try after taking off the cover at the back of the machine).
