Phone was stuck at apple logo. Was set aside, now it turns on but...

A week ago, my iPhone got stuck at the Apple Logo when I tried to restart the phone. Before that, I was experiencing issues during a call, but I can not verify these problems as I was in an area prone to bad cell service.

Anyways, I tried everything from updating the phone to restoring the phone, and nothing worked. At one point, iTunes was able to detect the phone, battery level, storage information, etc. just like a regular phone, despite the phone still being stuck at the apple logo.

I left the phone alone for a week now, and today I decided to charge the phone. It did not get stuck at the apple logo this time and turned on. From there, I began testing the phone. At first, I listened to my missed voicemails from the week. A few minutes in, the voicemail voice started cutting out. I think this was happening both on speaker and receiver. Next, I tried voice memo to see if the mic was working, and it didn't (The app was lagging too, maybe because the phone was attempting to connect to the mic??). I tried a test call, and my voice went through for a few seconds, and now it doesn't even work. Then I tried testing my camera, and the app was very slow. Switching between the camera and video modes was laggy, and videos and slow-motion camera modes don't work (the two modes that use the mic).

I then tried playing a video on youtube, and it works. Audio plays fine.

Sometimes speaker, receiver, and mic works, other times it doesn't. I think it is the mic that is the problem here. Everything is working fine through a Bluetooth speaker. However, I believe that a piece of hardware on my phone is almost about to give. It works sometimes, and I was lucky that I turned on my phone today, when it was working.

I need help narrowing down the issue. Is it just the mic, audio ic, or is it something bigger?

This is almost certainly the classic audio ic flexion based fault on the iPhone 7. The common manifestation of this fault is greyed out voice memo and screen input lag, then "detected by iTunes as normal but stays stuck at Apple logo. The problem comes from normal use of the phone, just like the iPhone 6/6plus touch disease---only this time the flexion of the board causes stretching damage of the c12 jumper under audio ic.

This can be repaired by microsoldering to add microjumpers to c12 and other traces that can be affected by board flexion, and then replacement of the audio ic. Unfortunately it is not a DIY repair, but any microsolderer that has seen this issue before will be aware of this common defect.

How much should I expect to spend to do this? I contacted a phone repair shop and explained the symptoms and they said that they think it is the audio ic. The quoted me 100 dollars.

Was just looking at your Youtube video titled "iPhone 7 Lag, No Touch, No Voice Memo----Audio ic C12 problem" and I noticed that you demonstrated an iPhone that has extreme lag. My iPhone doesn't have any lag to it when it starts up. Also, voice memo is not grayed out. Instead, it starts the recording but stays at 00:00:00 (unless connected to a Bluetooth speaker with mic input). Would this still be a problem concerning the C12 jumper?

Yes, this is almost certainly audio ic related, but unlikely to be the common presentation of c12 pad damage, yours is more likely other pads under the audio ic. $100 is a little low for a microsolderer to take the risk that this phone is ultimately not repairable due to common secondary issues at the nearby baseband pmic (especially since you *may* have had cell service issues earlier.) under the no fix no fee model that most operate under, as well as taking on the troubleshooting to figure out which pads need jumpers under your audio ic. I would expect a $100 audio ic job to be "no jumpers, replace chip only" with a short warranty period, and no 'no fix no fee' if the phone ultimately has baseband issues which are unrelated.

This is a pretty common problem with iPhone 7 and 7 plus. It's due to a bad connection on an IC chip. The following link has some steps for a temporary fix that helped me get the phone to turn on and get through some calls before I had to fully fix the issue.

There are a couple different things that can cause a restore from not completing. Are you getting any kind of errors? I think Fixstop also repairs other issues like that.
