Plastic connecting earpad with headband broke

I don't know how to name that part but hopefully pictures will show what i'm talking about. It is only their 6th month, so that sucks. But I would appreciate any help or suggestions how to fix that

OMG, this happened to me yesterday too. Had them for 10 months without issue, then i take them out of my bag and bam....snapped!

door

Yeah, this is one of the two weak points of these headphones. The first one is that the sliders. if you use them too much, will get super loose. The second is the yoke for the crushers where the cups connect crack for no reason, within normal use. What I did when mine cracked there the first time is used the limited life time warranty; but I also sent them my only receipt hoping I would get it back but never did... I did get a brand new pair but now I can't get another pair on my new headphones that already cracked. Maybe you can cut out peices of metal and make your own yokes??? that would be soo cool considering how great these headphones are!!!

door

This happened to me after 8 months as well. Maybe if we get a significant number of complaints, Skullcandy is going to revise that weak spot. I have called the re-seller I bought them from (I live in Romania - nu skullcandy here) and they told me warranty does not cover it.

I'm planning on writing to Skullcandy support with a couple of testimonials, so we can deem this as factory fault, and have it included in the normal terms of warranty. If you guys are interested, drop me an e-mail: andrei.ileanu@live.com.

Cheers!

door

That's so odd? They replaced mine no problem, maybe it's different in Romania for some unknown reason. If you use your headphones normally they should have covered it. If you have any questions for me in your testimony thing I would be willing to answer.

I Had a same problem. I'm really disappointed . Always after 8 months .

Someone have a good news from the Skullcandy Costumer Service ?

by now the OP probably has the fixed already. Just for completion sake, there is really not much you can do. This is part of a design issue and Skullcandy is most likely not doing anything about it. You can try to make a bond out of thin metal and strap it around the broken part then use some small sheet metal screws to attach that band. Adhesives will most likely not work since there is movement and stress on the part. Of Course you can always try and get a set of headphones that is broken on places other than yours and then harvest the part needed from those.

So my brother went and sent his in and the ones that they shipped back were different. The headband was slightly smaller and I believe the screws were in a different place too. Maybe they redesigned them a bit so they are more flexible? I spent hours writing a tutorial on returning the headphones for a replacement pair and iFixit decided to decline my post as an advertisement because it had links to the websites and the emails that you need in order to replace the headset for free. I messaged iFixit but they never rectified the problem. I'm frustrated with iFixit because of this, but hey, it is what it is.

I've got mine replaced under warranty at the store where I bought it (PC World/Currys)

Skullcandy Europe's email response, in case it helps someone:

May 29, 10:00 AM MST

Thank you for your email, Jozsef. I'm sorry for the issues you're having. It is definitely covered with our warranty.

Skullcandy has an awesome warranty. We make it very easy for you to have your headphones replaced for a full 2 years after you purchase them, no extra extended warranty to purchase. We do, however, require you pay to ship the product to us.

We pay the shipping to get the BRAND NEW, non refurbished product back to you. If you wish to take advantage of our amazing warranty simply visit your local post office and get your defective headphones shipped out to us, we will handle the rest. We are very sorry for any inconvenience the shipping cost causes.

We appreciate you choosing Skullcandy, Jozsef. Have a wonderful day!

I know that this is late but there is a bigger solution to fixing this.

I just tried this product yesterday on my skullcandy wireless crushers, now i have pictures that it definitely holds, sturdy as heck and unlike other glues a little does go a long way.

The glue i used is loctite epoxy plastic bonder. And also you can cover any of it with black paint as well. (20 minutes to bond, 24 hours to completely cure.

Thanks, William, epoxy would have been my weapon of choice too, I've got a replacement under warranty though. It's not impossible that one day it's going to end up covered by epoxy though. ;)

Good Morning Guys.

Can someone send me a email like you sent to SkullCandy Warranty?

because i sent 3 times and they reply always with that samples messages.

"Sorry to hear that you are having problems with your Skullcandy product, but keep reading to learn how you can take advantage of our warranty program!

Our warranty is valid for 24 months from date of purchase and only covers manufacturing defects. We need a receipt (or copy of your bank/CC statement) as proof of purchase.

Please go to http://www.skullcandy.co.uk/customer-ser... to find out how to participate in our warranty program.

We don’t repair our headphones, but we replace them for valid warranty claims.

If your headphones have a detachable cable, you can try a replacement cable first to check if the cable is the problem. The replacement cable for your headphones is also covered by the 24 months warranty! Just send us a scan of the proof of purchase (receipt or bank/credit card statement), the model of your headphone, your full postal address and a phone number, and we will send a free replacement cable your way!

If your headphones have been purchased more than 2 years ago or if you don’t have proof of purchase anymore, you can purchase a new replacement cable from our shop (http://www.skullcandy.co.uk/shop/accesso...).

Let us know if there is anything else that we can help with!

Rock on!

Yours,

I've got the same link, you don't need anything else.

This is how it works:

1. You submit a claim on their warranty page they sent you

2. You get a label to print and you send it to their UK return address

3. They will assess the claim in about 2-3 weeks.

4. You get a brand new replacement in the post.

Or, you can bring it back to the place you bought it, as I've got a replacement at the local PC World store.

Good luck!

I was waiting for a confirmation after that email. because they have other email Info@Skullcandy.com .

I will send my broken Skullcandy this saturday ;)

Thanks a Lot.

Same happened to my headphones after 3 (!) months. I have an idea to print this part on 3d printer and add some additional metal parts to make it more "bendproof". Also I wil make a "dangerous" part a little bit wider for additional safety. The only thing: I don't know how to disassemble the part where metal band puts into this part. I see that it can be disassembled but I.m not sure how to do it right =)

Does anyone evere disassembled this part and know how the metal band connects to it?

why wouldn't they repair their headphones.. doesn't make any sense.. atleast they should make the spare parts available.

door

I've taken them apart before and the part that breaks does come off the earcup but is still attached from the metal band that can be unscrewed from the top of the band.

door

Did you 3d print the part? Could you send me the file, ameriluis9@outlook.com

door

not yet. Glued it once again. Was no free time to do it. Need some teardown videos/images of that part to be triple sure what I have to do and what I should have as a result

If someone interested - I’ve also found this part on thingiverse

[FIXED] I broke mine a couple of times (glued back then broke again). Finally I got tired of the superglue routine and decided to dig around my tools for something stronger. Well… the solution actually came from my kids play bin. I found “Melty Beads” (available at Walmart).

I re-superglued the pieces together again. But this time, I wanted to reinforce the plastic where it breaks. So after applying the superglue, I heated up my solder gun, with a flat bit at the front, grabbed some black plastic beads from the box and melted two beads (layered) on each crack. Now, this is not pretty, but I use them in my home office so it doesn’t matter.

[edit] I sanded down the surfaces before the melting / plastic welding process

Hi all,

Would they replace it if I tried to work it out with superglue initially and it failed?

Like, would they take back a product if customer tried to fix them temporarily?

P.S. it is still in warranty.

Has anyone got a replacement when they tried fixing the product first but then decided to ship it for replacement?

Thanks

Yeah! If you can't take off the glue they shouldn't care. My first pair I sent in (I'm on my third pair of headphones now years later) had super glue on them and they still gladly replaced it.

door

Thanks Bryson, I got mine replaced as well.

I wonder how tender they are if you're on your 3rd pair. :/

I hope I wont need to replace them again.

The best option to do is to replace the headphones. It may take some time and under $10 for shipping but you will get a brand new box and pair of headphones. These headphones come with a limited time warranty and it’s great! I am on my third pair of them and love them. My brother also got a pair and they broke and he sent them in. If you get the fast shipping you can send it out Monday and get it back Friday. Here’s how to do it:

1.) Go to https://warranty.skullcandy.com/

2.) Select “Headphone”

3.) Select “Crusher Wireless” (Color doesn’t matter)

4.) Select your purchase month

5.) Select your purchase year

6.) Then name the place you purchased the product

7.) Describe what happened to the headphones, and make sure to include if you were using them under normal use.

8.) Insert your First name

9.) Insert your Last name

10.) Insert your primary email

11.) Re-insert the same email

12.) Insert your primary address in “Address line 1“

13.) Insert City

14.) Select State

15.) Insert zip code

16.) Insert your cell phone number

Now you will get an email from them that may take a bit to receive. After opening the email:

17.) Print a copy of the email (and the receipt for safe measures)

18.) Pack the email and receipt copies in a box with the headphones

19.) Send out the package to “ Skullcandy, Inc. 1505 Worldwide Blvd. Hebron, KY 41048 “ (Or the address that is sent in your email) through a trackable carrier

Now you should be set to have them send you a brand new unopened pair of Skullcandy Crusher Wireless headphones!

On a side note, they seem to have changed the design of the headphones a bit from the original design. The black pair is mine (the old ones) and the white pair is my brothers (the new ones)

Changes:

  • The metal band is now thinner
  • There are now 4 screws above the cup which makes it look like it would be more repairable if parts were available for purchase
  • The white headband feels like it’s slightly thicker but this might just be my eyes
  • The white plastic housing on the top part of the metal band is now reinforced and thicker

I don’t know why they made these changes but hopefully it was for the better. So far the white ones are holding up and so are my older black ones. Besides those changes everything is the same from sound quality to battery life. Also as a disclaimer the white pair always had the canvas top vs the leather so that I didn’t include. Speculation for why they would change the design like that would be to make it more repairable and it’s now probably cheaper to manufacture because of the smaller headband, but that’s just my guess. If anyone has any questions I would be more than happy to answer them! I also noticed that there are no tare down videos so I will release a tare down video of the older pair on my YouTube channel if anyone is interested just search Skullcandy Crusher Wireless Tare Down and it should be there.

This looks like a great solution, but that part is not the same as what is needed to fix the Skullcandy Crusher Wireless model. Someone would need to generate a 3D print file for that particular model, but I know of none yet. I've posted a solution on my YouTube channel involving a two part plastic bonding epoxy from Loctite:

this happened to me too -- i just used some gaffers tape to jig it back together, and it works. it's not ideal as the repaired side of the headphones no longer seal to my ear. i may try to do some work with epoxy or those melty beads to fix the broken plastic area and see if that helps/fixes the issue. otherwise the sound is still great.
