Would it be a good idea to put thermal paste in an iPhone?

Just wondering if anyone knew if it was a good idea to put thermal paste in between the iPhone 6S logic board and aluminum back, so the back acts like a heat sink to reduce thermal throttling during FaceTime calls.

I don't know if you still needed an answer but here you go, just recently I Applied some Thermal Paste on my iPhone 7 Plus with 79% Battery Health it's a simple task if you know how to Remove the Screen

1. I Remove the Screen and then Unplug Battery and Screen Flexible from the Logic Board

FYI Apple Is Using a Thin Cooper Above the phone's Processor and then with some Thin Graphite.

2. I Gently Pulled the Graphite Up but don't completely Remove Them, then you should be able see The Thin Cooper then you should Applied the Thermal Paste on the Cooper just a tiny bit then spread it until you cover at least 80% of the Cooper then Gently close the Graphite again and use your finger to try to stick it back again from the edge to edge if the Graphite is secured then you add more Thermal Paste on the Graphite this time add a bit more then Spread It bit by bit until you nearly covered all the Graphite and just like that you just Applied you Thermal Paste from there you can installed back all the Metal Shield.

sorry for the late answer . thermal pad did the job. chip was overheating and thermal throttling. saddly the poor design couldnt keep the device cool , so with the addition of regular thermal pads and graphite thermal pad , iphone work as it should be.

to be honest , expect your phone to be slightly warmer on the case , because now you dissipate the board’s heat into the aluminium case ! :)

i tested this , on some iphone7 and 7plus. all works fine after the mod

What thickness of thermal pad you use?

@zachjeymz using Thermal Pad is not necessary because you if you want to use Thermal Pad you need to know the Exact Measurement from the device to the Logic Board if it's to thick you wouldn't be able to close it but if it's to thin it wouldn't effective just use the Factory Graphite Sheet just add Thermal Paste Below and Above the Graphite Sheet your problem should be solved.

@teckfire this would only work if those components touch. Thermal paste is intended to cover the imperfection of a heatsink and an IC to maximize the surface area for heat exchange. I doubt it will make any difference on your iPhone since it is not designed for this. Of course if you designed and created a heatsink and then use thermal paste, it might work.

it's not 100% Effective but it's actually worked I test this method on my iPhone 7 Plus from Easly Overheating and Throttling to Warm and Comfortable but yeah it wouldn't make your device 100% Clear from the issues

i think thermal paste , wont do anything unless you have some kind of heatsink in contact with chips(that’s what oldturkey said above). is impossible in other words.

personally , i am waiting for some thermal pads to arrive (just ordered some), so i can use them between the small gap of the board and the back of my phone (iphone 7 plus)

i am getting so much thermal throttle , even in some light games.antutu report 120.000 points without any modification, if i cool the device with some fresh water on the back or some ice + water on my hand i get 195.000++ points , thats crazy.

i have cleaned the phone from inside , with ultrasonic cleaner filled with isopropyl alchocol (case - board) but still no better results.

i will try to fit those pads (0.2 and 0.3mm thickness) into that phone and i ll report back in some days.

How's that report coming along? I'm sure many have read without comment and are waiting to read what you have found.

Gently Pulled the Graphite Sheet you should be able to see a Small Cooper if you applied some Thermal Paste on that Cooper and then on the Graphite itself, it should help your Heating Problem which I just do to my 7 Plus 2 Days ago and it was big difference.
