So the phone was working fine for a few hours . I was able to recreate the problem when i try to connecting and disconnecting the home button and boot. What bothers me is that lets say the home button is damage the phone should still boot normally without the button connected but phone boot up super slow 3-5 mins

door

@linxg The problem could be the home button. I have 2 iphone 7 here, when the start without button takes minutes to turn on. Then they work well once started.

door

any of you familiar with u10 ic on home button Could that cause any problem with the slow boot and not reading home button/ touch id .

door

it could be a shot somewhere on the logic board. If you have a microscope I advise to check all connectors for missing or damaged parts. Could also be that two pins are shorted and what you experience might not be a slow booting, but multiple reboots during the startup ?

door

i say is about 2 reboot til it start up . it takes 3mins +

Just an FYI, if you do not have an home button installed it will take 1-5 minutes for it to turn on on apple logo.

The front camera not being connected will not affect the boot time on an iPhone 7, however a faulty / damaged front camera flex can make the iPhone get stuck in a bootloop / take ages to turn on or even cause touch ID to not work.

I also saw many post online saying that there could be an issue with the front camera flex but with or without it plug in phone is booting supers slow

door

No problem, I rarely ever get the chance to replace iPhone 7 front camera, last time was from someone else opening up the phone and ripping the cable.

door

I have an iPhone 7 I am fixing for a customer.i replaced the screen with a full assembly (front cam, earspeaker, flex cable included). It took a long time to boot up after I finished. Touch ID and home button both work. Front camera works, but neither speaker will play music or voice. Speaker button is greyed out and proximity sensor doesn’t work. But it just take some an extremely long time you start up. Also, my personal iPhones 7+ is same way but touchid works and home button doesn’t. Same issues with earpiece and camera and booting

door

Could be due to how the front camera is removed during screen replacement. Maybe teared, front cam cable heated too much during removal.

Greyed out speaker icon during calls is a fault with the audio chip and that requires microsoldering to fix that (one of the pads to provide connection to the logic board under the audio chip breaks which is common).

Check to see if you can record a voice memo...if not, What you are experiencing is a known issue and there are several posts concerning it. Reflowing will not fix this issue. You will need to remove U3101 Audio IC and run a jumper from the C12 pad.

For the pass 4 boots the phone turn on just fine, Boot time and everything normal and voice recording works.

I was able to get the slow boot issue to come back when booting the phone without home button the audio also works

door

Is there an ic chip on the logic board that controls the home button?

door

Yes, and in the Home button and flex itself :)

door

can you tell me where is the ic located on the logic board?

door

Only issue with slow boot and no memo function or voice call. After reflow issue seems to be gone. THX for the hint!

What is the version of the iPhone? Is it the issue that the aftermarket replacement not compatible with the iOS 11 just like the iOS 11 first time launched.

  • Update the device system to the newest.
  • Remove the Home button and front facing camera flex cable then test the device boot up speed.

I have an iPhone 7 that suddenly the microphone stopped working during texting. I have no damage to the phone and it has never been repaired / phone never opened. The phone takes 2-3 minutes to boot and flashes several times during the process. The VoiceMemos red button is greyed out (non functional), and when I call someone, the speaker icon is greyed out. I have sound from my speakers as normal. On the accessibility menu, I have no setting (just doesn't appear) for noise cancellation.

I am at iOS 11.3, this did not happen immediately after upgrading. I have reset, resinstalled, DFU'd every possible software thing. I have rebooted probaby 30 times now. One time the boot was fast (normal) and the mic worked as it did before.

It is like the mic subsystem is faulting on boot and is eventually shut down.

Any ideas? Any freeware diagnostic I can use to help troubleshoot?

What am I looking at if I take this in to Apple - I have had it about 1.5 or so years.

And a bit more information - by computer I contacted Apple for troubleshooting and they ran a diagnostic (mode found under settings somewhere). The person said of course, "Nothing is showing up on the diagnostic, bring it in to an Apple Store" and not much else. I kept pushing and they said "we can see some unexpected terminations" but would not elaborate - I believe that is in context of the boot time which is now 3-4 minutes / ~3 screen flashes.

Interestingly this morning I could do diction in a imessage a couple of times -- just like normal but then after a couple of messages i just get a spinning circle for a second in the text area and then it drops out of diction mode.

It's like a intermittent hardware issue but not quite!?!??

Any thoughts or things to try would be great. Even when the diction was working, Voice Memo and calling does not work (greyed out buttons still, and still missing the noise cancellation setting in accessibility. Spotify works great, but can't record sound !!!!

door

And the saga continues. I rebooted again with no other changes. i think this time the boot went about the normal amount of time. Part of the missing microphone-containing items start working to various degrees. The Accessibility noise reduction item is back, voice memos and videos record sound correctly. A couple of phone calls worked fine, but on others there was some sound "pops" and related strangeness and in a couple of cases the sound went dead both on my end and to the person on the other side of the call --and I couldn't hear them either. Diction is working normally. Previously greyed out buttons are back to normal.

I feel like I have a hardware issue like a flaky mic-related chip, but I am not 100% it is not a SW bug given all I have read in the various iPhone forums of similar strange behaviors. My gut tells me it is SW related.....

door

Having the same issues as you are . I can't use my camera in the camera apps but i works fine in a 3rd party camera apps. Let me know if you solved those problems.

door

Hi for the last two weeks I have had the same issue. Upgrading to 11.3.1 did not change anything.

A restart would still take about 3 minutes or so with about 3 screen flashes.

Just now I very lightly twisted the case (gently) and restarted and voila it came up as normal - phone works and diction works.

I agree that this now appears to be an intermittent HW issue........trying to see if I can live with this or if I take it into Apple or someone else.........

Thanks for the info Alex Sander.

I have the same problem as DeafeningSilence on my iPhone 7. Used 1.5years. Wtf is going on?!! Boot time is about 5min. Once I got it to work normally, booted normally, voice memo and calls working but then after couple calls it got fked up again. No sounds when calling ( no speaker option) and there is no sound when taking videos. YouTube and Spotify works normally though. Now I can call but nobody hears on the other line nor do I hear them. App calls like messenger or WhatsApp doesn’t even wanna connect neither through video calls . Even with WiFi/4g working properly.

Also when I connect headphones which are btw brand new the phone doesn’t recognise them. But then again.. by Connecting with Bluetooth headphones The phone seems to work normally.

I’ve Tried everything from restoring as new phone etc with no luck.

In my experience this points to the homebutton fault, the phone is testing pre boot and tries a few times before loading into iOS.

i had the same problem yesterday. i was able to crack the issue and i am out of it now. i saw a small crack in the flex cable which connects the motherboard with the touch id. i had to replace the whole backlight assembly for one broken cable (unlike iphone 6 and earlier models).. for understanding more u can watch this video (link below).

later for solving slow boot i reinstalled the ios and both of my problems got solved.
