Can't see my sign on screen

I took the bottom off my 15" and book pro 2010 to get battery numbers for replacement and put the screws back in order and my screen won't come on so I can't sign on,but it did come on once and said some password needed to be reset. Never saw that happen in 8 years. Any thoughts welcome

Larry

Have you tried the PRAM and SMC reset procedures?

If your battery has run completely down and it been sitting for a while it may not be retains enough power in the capacitor on the logic board to remember who it is, what wi-fi network it is on or even the date. First thing to do is what you know is wrong with it. Replace the battery and let it fully charge up. Now you can try to power on and see if it will talk to you.

If that fails, disconnect the battery and the mag-safe, then press and hold the power button for 10 seconds. Now reconnect the battery and mag-safe and it should reboot spontaneously.

Try taking off the bottom screws again, but leaving on the bottom, and try turning it on like that, just to make sure the screws were not causing the issue.

If the device will not turn on at all, as in no fans, no sounds, nothing on the screen, its reasonable to assume something was damaged when you took off the bottom. If the device does turn on to some level, but wont reach the login screen, that is a different story. Could you clarify what happens when you try to turn on the device?

I get the start up chime but no screen. At first try a dialog box came up saying something needed to be reset but it hasn't come on again and don't remember what it said. I have 27 years experience installing and servicing electronic equipment but computers are not one of them. I'll try your suggestion
