Content Transfer failed from iPhone 7 to iPhone 8P

Need to transfer all my content from iPhone 7 256G to iPhone 8P. I am trying to use iTunes to do that but the process was stuck. The progress bar not moving after two hours.

Is the reason that the data is too big? What is the quickest way to do that? Thanks

There are many ways to transfer content from iphone to new iphone. You can try iTunes to do that.

Use the steps in this section to back up your previous device in iTunes and to transfer the backup to your new device. If you don't encrypt your iTunes backup, Health and Activity data from your iOS device or Apple Watch won't be saved.

Make an iTunes backup of your previous device

1. Connect your previous device to your computer.

2. Open iTunes and make sure that you have the latest version.

3. Select your device.

4. If you want to save Health and Activity data from your iOS device or Apple Watch, you need to encrypt your backup: Select the box called Encrypt [device] backup and make a memorable password.

5. After the process completes, make sure that your backup finished successfully in iTunes Preferences > Devices. You should see the name of your device and the date and time that iTunes created the backup. If you encrypted your backup, you should also see beside your device's name.

I've seen this before, and it was due to a corrupted iTunes backup.

Here is my suggestion.

1) delete old iTunes Backups

2) double tap the iPhone 7 home button, and make sure no apps are currently running, then reboot the phone.

3) create a new iphone 7 backup in iTunes

4) double tap the iphone 8P and make sure no apps are running and reboot the phone

5) restore the backup on to the iphone 8P from step 3

6) On the iphone 8P, after backup succeeds, go to settings --> General -->Reset --> Reset all Settings

You should be good to go from here.

To answer your question. Depending on how full your phone is can determine the length of the back up. For me, a typical 128 GB unit that's full of photos took 2.5 hours to back up to the PC. So, if you're unit is full, then it will take time.

Fastest and safest way for me is always on Itunes.

Side Notes*

Make sure itunes is updated.

Check the iOS on both devices. If Old unit has a greather iOS than the new one, the new one will need to update before able to restore.

Select My Computer when backing up.

Check if you have enough space on your PC to back up all the content.

Do not Encrypt, I've had other customers have this issue.

Make sure you know your password for Apple ID, it may ask for it.

Good Luck
