MacBook Pro 13" 2015 A1502 no PPBUS_G3H green orange light but no fan

I have no fan / no power on my MacBook Pro. My MagSafe charger LED is either Orange or Green, but the system doesn't power up.

I don't have PPBUS_G3H. Does someone have an idea why?

U7100:

  • Pin 2 = 16V
  • 17-18 = 4.2Ω (normal)
  • 27.28 = 20Ω (normal )

F7140 = resistance to ground 1,4Ω ??

UPDATE:

PPBUS_S5_HS_COMPUTING is shorted to ground. Pin 2 of C7316 getting hot.

Update (11/22/2017)

The HS Line is shorted to ground. I Cent do anything beacuase of The hole in Board.

Did you check the fuse link? {F7040}

door

You mean F7140?? How can i test it? What specification has it?

door

I think he is referring to the PPBUS_G3H fuse. Measure both sides of the fuse, one side is for the system and the other side is more closer for the DC-in jack.

Thanks Ben for adding the clarity!

There is a short to ground on PPBUS_G3H, feel U7100 to see if it is getting hot. If it is not, remove F7140 and see which side the short to ground is located, where PPBUS is created (charging chip side) or system side (anything powered off of this line). Keep in mind this voltage goes to at least one 4 way low ohm resistor, so something from this could be shorting PPBUS_G3H to ground.

If you don't notice any visible damage, try injecting a small amount of voltage on this line and see what gets hot.

Thx for the help! The U7100 is not getting hot. I removed F7140 and i recognize that pin 2 (system side) is shorted to ground. Where can i look next?

Get a board view file for your board, and check everything on this side of the fuse, to find out what is causing the issue. Unfortunately there is no 'one solution solves all'; you just have to figure it out for yourself. Inject a small amount of voltage if you have to, to see what is shorting to ground

I removed the R5400 and the system side is no more shorted to ground. Now i have to find new R5400...

UPDATE:

Is it this one: VISHAY WSK06123L000FEA METALLBAND-WIDERSTAND, R003, 1%, 0612

??

door

R5400 is a 4 way resistor with no path to ground; something on one of the 4 points is shorted to ground, and then shorting PPBUS through this 4 way resistor (since it is low ohm resistance)

Basically PPBUS will be shorted when you replace the resistor, so you need to find out what is shorting

So.... The pin 1 of R5400 is still shorted to ground (PPBUS_S5_HS_COMPUTING). Then i removed all resistors (R7202, Q7320, Q7310, Q7430 and Q7630) and PPBUS_S5_HS_COMPUTING was still shorted to ground. It means that one of the capacitors is shorted? I removed some (C7317, C7318, C7619, C7372, C7323, C7375, C7373, C7374, C7319, C7329, C7314, C7313, C7324) but still PPBUS_S5_HS_COMPUTING is shorted to ground.

Then i used a freeze spray for boards and put DC to the board. I recognize that the PIN 2 (GND) of C7316) was melting firstly. Where can i look next?

If U7100 is getting hot replace it. Fairly common failure

This is Not The Solution for my Problem. After removing F7140 and R5400, which was shorted to ground, i get 12,6V on PIN 1 of F7140. Now i am Waiting for new R5400, Then i will give you my results :)
