My battery won't charge when plugged in.

Suddenly, my laptop's battery doesn't charge.

It works if I turn it on with the cable connected to the electricity, but it says in Windows "Connected but not charging", and the battery doesn't charge. How can I fix it?

@pedrofive you need to tell us which laptop model this is. Also, check your settings to make sure that nothing is preventing the battery from charging. since your computer "knows" your battery is connected but not charging, I'd start by replacing the battery. After that you need to determine which type of motherboard you have. Then you need to find a schematic for it and check to see if this is a charging circuit issue. Getting complicated, that is why you need to start with a new battery.

There also is the possibility that it is the charging brick itself. Try following this set of steps from HP.

I have tried other charging wires but don't work neither.

@pedrofive if you follow the guide ( leads you through the BIOS) it does a self test to tell you what has gone wrong with the battery/charging system.

Normally, the battery can not charge that is caused by such reasons:

1. Poor power management.

You should have a device manager in your machine to see what processes are taking place on your laptop. If unnecessary processes are going on, then stop them immediately. This will help in reducing power usage. There is software called Power Manager in most of the recent operating systems.

2.The screen brightness.

Many people like to use the computer in the dark because it helps them read better. In the case of the laptop, the monitor brightness makes it possible for the power to drain even faster. To reduce the use of the power, turn down the monitor brightness. If you use the laptop in a room with low light, then use a bulb or get sunglasses to protect your eyes.

3.The incomplete installation of the accessories

When you are installing an accessory such as a battery, make sure that you install it correctly. Do not install it on the plug that is backward. This will prevent the power supply from being damaged. If you are not sure about the position of the plug, ask for assistance from customer care.

4.The overuse of the adapter.

Many people use the USB to Ethernet adapter even when there is an available USB port in the laptop. These devices can only be detected when they are turned on. Hence, they do not use any energy when they are turned on. This results in the laptop not using enough power when you want to connect to the internet.
