new battery won't charge after installation

I purchased a battery a week ago and got it installed in the phone. Battery appeared to work at first, but did not want to charge. Not even with different kinds of chargers. My car charger and my official iphone 3G charger can't charge it, nor can my regular USB.

Battery is now completely dead, will have to replace it with the original again for the time being. Can this be that one of the connectors is not connected well enough, as I have taken apart the phone multiple times. Or that the battery (new) just won't charge.

On a second test, the battery appears not to be charging. Because I put the original battery back in again and it is charging for the moment with the original iphone charger. So I guess it has something to do with the battery itself. Can I send it back in to have it checked / replaced?

Did you ever have this problem fixed? I am having the same problem: after installing the new battery, the phone got stuck with the battery sign with the lightning bolt when connected to the charger, but it will not charge no matter how long left on the charger.

This is a pretty common problem! Send it back- there's nothing wrong with your phone- it charges your old battery, therefore the new one is faulty/incorrect model. Check you've ordered the same serial number battery...

some batteries may have been on the shelf for some time..the 3g has been around a while so it is possible that while you have a new battery it has slowly discharged and lost it's ability to recharge. You may also like to check the dock connector isn't damaged or dirty and this is why it is failing to charge. There is also a post here I will try to find again which tells you how to "jump start" or boost a nearly dead battery so you can use it again. All you need is a 9v battery and some wire..

Yup, me too. I installed the new battery and it would not take a charge from same and other iPhone charging devices. Replaced the new batter with the old battery and everything works as it should. Old battery will charge. I am SO TIRED of all these companies and their defective products. And don't buy from Meritline.com - their batteries are not built to spec dimensions so it will not allow the connections to fit in the phone and connectors will not align properly.

This has happened to me 4 times now. Bought from 3 different sites including ebay twice. Most expensive battery bought was $20. And each time I buy the same model, the correct model. My old battery will charge with it..but none of them would.

If you have a phone repair place in your town or city....just go to them and have it fixed. They will provide the battery as well as install it for around $30-$50. Saves you all this horrible internet scamming and time it takes. I'm on the 4th battery and it looks like it probably isn't going to charge. 30mins and still on the red bolt. This time i'm just going to get someone to fix it. 3 months of trying to fix it myself. What a waste of time. =(
