Samsung LN R 408 DX XAA 40: Is that a slide switch next to the fan?

Block Image

Block Image

Of the two attached pictures, one shows the sliding switch in the "in" position, the other shows it in the "out" position.

The only reference in the owner's manual I can find is that this is where the "cable CARD" slides in:

Does anyone have any ideas as to what this switch is for? It sits next to the fan.

The TV is currently not working, probably needs a new power supply board.

Thank you.

@dbk that is for your Cable Card. That is a thick credit card size device that you get from your cable company. It will eliminate an external digital receiver (set top box) Not all service.providers do carry those. It has nothing to do with the actual function of the TV. You insert that CableCARD in the slot by your fan.

Thank you! So strange that it's basically attached to the fan, but judging by the proximity to the cable card slot, makes sense. I've never heard of a cable card, I guess I have a set top box. Is there an advantage to asking my cable company (Spectrum) for a cable card, to use instead of the set top box? I'll call them to see what they say as well. Thank you.

Looks to me like the only real benefit will be real estate. Less clutter and wires are the big benefit at this time.
