Hi I have a Sansa clip plus 4gb. No idea what happened but one day I plugged into my laptop and my player restarted and stuck in refreshing media mode. I held the player to turn it off hard reset and no matter what its still stuck in the refreshing media mode.. Appreciate any advise at all as it's now as good as a junk of plastic =(

Great thing you came here!Well all you have to do is plug the player in your computer and delete these three files and they are named:MTABLE.SYS,RES_INFO.SYS,SYS_CONF.SYS.Reboot the player and you should be done!

I had a similar problem: My sansa would insist on refreshing the media every time I turned it on. I found some info saying that there is a glitch in the flash card slot. I removed my sd card (never used it much anyway) and haven’t had the problem since. Since you don’t seem to have an sd card in it… and assuming you still have your sansa (this is an old question, it seems), if you hold the power button and the volume-up button for 20 seconds, you can force a reset. (Caution: holding the power and volume-down will give your sansa a factory-reset, wiping all of your music. Useful as a last resort.)

Hope this helps a little…

Mine's stuck in the "Connected" mode, and won't turn off or connect back to the computer. Your problem could be the same, which would be caused by a broken connector port.

Sandisk Sport Go SIMPLE SOLUTION TO STUCK IN REFRESHING YOUR MEDIA.

This works each and every time, no matter how much data youve transferred or how long the file names are. I searched everywhere to try to find out how to get the units to work that have many files on them, and then started experimenting. NO additional software needed. Here are the steps.

  1. Turn Sandisk GO off by holding the main front button until screen goes black.
  2. Plug the unit into your computer USB port using the cable supplied (other cables may not work).
  3. Sandisk is charging, and you can load files, remove, etc…just like any other file transfer.
  4. Unplug the Sandisk from the computer.
  5. The Sandisk will go into perennial “Refreshing Your Media” state.
  6. After a minute or so, turn the GO off like you did in step 1.
  7. Plug the Sandisk back into the computer but this time watch the screen. A brighter Sandisk shows up on the screen, wait 3 seconds (or until the Sandisk letters go slightly dimmer), and UNPLUG immediately from the computer.
  8. The unit will go directly to the folders screen and you’re good to GO!! (literally).
  9. Every time you turn the GO off and back on, it will be fine. The next time you plug it back into a computer to charge or load/unload files, you’ll have to follow the above procedure.

This method didn’t work. Unfortunately, I placed rare irreplaceable files on theSanDisk MP3 player and are unable to retrieve them. The player won’t play music and hangs in the “refreshing your media” screen. I’ve followed detailed instructions to no avail. I’ve worked on this problem for at least 6 months. I’d love to get my music files off this dead SanDisk. My disappointment level is so great, it borders on despair.

there are many many wires that connect the mp3 to the computer but only some actually transfer data across. for example, the wire that comes with the product is good, but another one that looks identical may not work. Also, after a bit, the wire may get stretched or bent and cease working even though the mp3 player itself is still fine. you can sometimes buy a new wire and this will then work fine, at least it may help you be able to copy the files to the computer, and it may even allow you to then reboot your mp3 device or do something else to restart it successfully.
