Ice is not dropping into receptical

Any other ideas around this? Bought a house with a 2012 samsung refrigerator and all of a sudden the ice stopped dropping. I have tried the re-set multiple times and it doesn't seem to be working. It looks as though ice is being made but isn't dropping into the bucket. Since we weren't the ones who bought the fridge, I don't think I am able to have a service technician come out to look

I don’t know if it helped but I have the same problem. Only mine makes the ice but doesn’t drop the ice in the bucket even though the bucket is empty. The ice gets stuck when the trays empty. I have to get a long plastic spatula and break the ice loose which is stuck between the ice maker and the wall of the box. I have to do this at least once a week. I thought Samsung made a good refrigerator but I will never buy another.

I got samsung rf266 n the ice dont dump on the tray?

door

We had this problem too. Ice would cycle using the test button, but simply would not drop in normal operation. Suspected the ice thermostat but running the self-diagnostic did not indicate a fault. Our freezer has vents at the rear of each compartment, and the problem was solved by ensuring that a couple of these were not blocked by the contents. The problem was that the ice tray was not getting cold enough to cycle due to the lack of cold airflow.

For RF4287hars model, if the freezing tray fills with water and the ice freezes, but will not dump, the problem is likely a blown thermal fuse. The freezing tray needs to be warmed after the ice freezes, to loosen the ice. If the ice remains in the tray, the dumping wiper keeps trying, and you will hear the motor softly whirring or grunting. There is a heating element under the metal freezing tray. I am a tech and I replaced mine, now it works fine. The repair is not for a novice, but with $10 worth of parts, available on Amazon, I avoided a $700 service call. See my video. https://youtu.be/AmFmTwqOypo

I have a samsung RF28HMEDBSR and had the same problem. After calling a technician who replaced the ice maker, water filter housing and lines and ice maker control board still nothing. The ice maker had ice in the molds but would not drop them into the ice bucket unless it was manually reset. After all this they then said it was my main control board ( I had changed that 2yrs prior and did not think that was the issue). So I researched and found that the ice auger motor which contained the I/R ice level sensor that could be bad. I replaced this and within 24 hrs had two full bins of ice!

Does the maker have a sensor arm that detects when it's full and is it in the up position? If so, gently push the arm drop to release it from the off position.

KristenGallagher, You reset it by unplugging the refrigerator for at least a 20 seconds then plugged it back in, correct?

Is there ice in the ice maker tray waiting to be dumped? Or is the ice maker tray empty?

If empty be sure the water is on. A dirty water filter can get clogged and not be able to fill the the tray. If your unit isn't cool enouh the sensors on the ice maker won't let it advance. You should be able to see a "test switch/button" on the ice maker. Hold it for 10 seconds and it should complete a test. It will cycle around, dump ice, cycle to the fill and cycle around and stop-all in a few seconds. If you hold the test button down for 10 seconds and nothing happens, you'll probably need a new ice maker.

The ice is made and pushed out of ice maker, but does not fall into the bucket. It hangs up between the edge of the icemaker and the wall in the icemaker cabinet. if I catch after the first cycle or two, I can just reach up and touch the cubes and they fall. if I miss it and several cycles have passed it is all jammed up and have to use heat gun to clean the jam up out Frig is less that 2 years old was top of the line.

Same happens to a lot of people including me Samsung is terrible made the mistake of buying all samsung appliances After 13 months was told it would cost 975 for dishwasher repair Dumped it Now this with refrig NEVER SAMSUNG

Mine is making and dispensing ice but it is not dropping into the bottom bin. It is in the ice bucket which is at the top left corner of the refrigerator. Is there anything I can do to fix that?

door

@lesliemead1 This is a common problem on your Samsung model. I believe there is a class action law suit filed on this issue with your model. The last I heard, Samsung still hasn’t found a repair for this problem.

door

I have tried leaving it unplugged for up to 6 hours and though the ice maker will allow water to fill and freeze (cubes), it just wont dump. As the test button works great, I feel it is a issue with the brain / timing mechanism that automatically dumps. It's as if it thinks it's full even though the sensor arm goes down at the dump and doesn't run into any ice. :(

If the ice is hung up on the arm or not falling into the ice bin a few things could cause this. Is the ice maker level? If the cubes are larger in the back of the ice tray than the water is settling more in the back cause it’s not level. Most ice maker are secured to the side of freezer with 2 1/4” screw above the ice tray and one 1/4” screw below the ice maker. You can adjust by loosening the screws. Don’t remove them, only loosen and adjust. A level might help. The true test will be after the first batch freezes. A bent arm can cause these issue too. Or the bracket at the back of the ice maker that the arm fits in could be cracked. Without a model number I’m only assuming you have an ice maker that mounts to the left side of the freezer. This is a common ice maker used by many manufacturers.

My Samsung is making the ice and dropping it. The only way I can get it to drop is to manually hold down the test button. It refills and freezes but won't drop on it's own.

@mj55 Chelle. There is a thermostat in the ice maker. It won’t allow the ice maker to advance until the temperature goes below 9*f. Check the temperature at the ice maker, if it’s below 9*f then you need an ice maker. If it’s above 9*f the problem is elsewhere. Usually the condenser coils under the refrigerator need to be cleaned. Unplug the refrigerator and pull it away from the wall. Remove the rear access panel. Vacuum out the coils being careful not to disturb wires. Once cleaned, allow 12-24 hrs for ice production.

door

The condenser coils need to be cleaned at least once a year, more often if you have indoor pets. I can’t stress enough how important this is. Dirty coils cause the refrigerant to run hot. Refrigerant changes from liquid to gas in the sealed system at specific times. Heat will effect this process. Heat will also cause the copper lines to break down. This can cause restrictions in the sealed system, the gas won’t flow properly. The dirty coils cause a domino effect. The compressor needs the air flow to keep it cool as well. If compressor runs hot, so will the refrigerant in the copper lines and eventually you will have a problem in the sealed system. The first sign of dirty coils is no ice production and/or ice cream is soft. Just like a car needs it’s oil changed regularly, appliances need to maintenance as well. Owner manuals all have a section on how to keep your appliance maintained so they last longer. You can download the owners manual from many websites for free. You only need the model number.

I just bought my Samsung fridge, model RF260, 2 days ago. It will not make ice and I have reset it 3 times. Only way I got my first tray of ice was with reset button. Only 3 pieces of ice.

door

@Jill Hazard Since you just bought it, you have a full year warranty on parts and labor. Schedule a service call. Don’t mess with it. You could void the warranty.

I hear the clicking sound when I press my cup against the dispenser and yes, the ice flap opens and closes. The ice tray fills & dumps as it should, and I can turn the circular knob on the back of the ice box, to make the ice fall through the shute. But the stainless steal auger blade is not rotating at all.

Figured that was the issue all along, but didn’t know what it was called, therefore, couldn’t search how to fix it. So thank you for all the detailed instructions!!

Now that you’ve helped me identify the issue, how do I fix it? I’m assuming it will need to be replaced?

Nikki, the stainless blades on the ice bin or behind the bin on the wall? The two on the rear wall turn with the dispenser motor. If you hear the motor but they don’t turn you might try tighten it. If it’s the blades on the ice bin than you need to buy the ice bin. At searspartsdirect.com you can enter the model # and click on the diagram and look at a detailed breakdown of the parts. It’ll give you an idea of how they fit and how to get to them. Samsung had a problem with one ice room design in a French door model with freezer on bottom. If this is the style you have I’d advise calling Samsung. Last I hear they were trying to make them recall it.

Ice doesn't drop is most probably a cracked ice tray. Either take out the tray and glue it or buy a new tray.

Because of the cray the tray will refill with the cubes inside and water will fall in collector bin. The water freezes and when using ice maker the rotating blades can't move and will crack the collector bin also cause of the blade force pushing the frozen ice.

Hopefully new models will have an additional sensor to monitor if ice tray is empty before filling.

You probably have hard water. The ice cubes are sticking to the tray and are not emptying. When the ice maker refills the tray with water, it spills into the ice bin freezing all your stored ice together. Solution: Replace the ice bin with a new one or clean the old one. Soak in vinegar or a solution of 1 part muratic acid to 4 parts water. Rinse well and coat tray with vegetable oil.

Model RS27T5200SR Frig/Freezer Automatic Ice Maker.

I had a problem with Ice Maker all of a sudden quit dumping ice. It was making ice but would only dump when reset button was pushed. After trying all the online reset techniques, Reset button, unplugging frig, etc. Read online about checking temp at Icemaker .  Put a thermometer near icemaker and after 1 hour it was reading +20 F even though freezer was set to 0 F. I cleared the frozen food and boxes blocking air circulation vents near back inside of freezer, Put freezer in "super cool" mode and about an hour later icemaker started dumping ice normally. Apparently the Icemaker wouldn't dump ice if the temp was above +9F near the icemaker from what I read online.

David your comment saved me a lot of work. I had the same issue. Switched to super cool and now it’s making ice again. What happened after you switched back to “normal”? Is the fridge still making and dumping the ice cubes onto the bucket?

I have the opposite problem. After thawing the top ice maker it only dumps ice in the lower bin in the freezer. Does not drop into dispenser bucket in the refrigerator. I may have accidentally set it to do that when I was trying to force thaw using the display panel. Can’t seem to figure it out.
