iPod 2nd gen freezes up and will not function after 1 min of use. cannot acess settings, safari, anything. Feels slightly warmer on the bottom half of the back side when turned on. What is going on?

Sounds like the drive is going. You can replace them but you may just want to upgrade!

Try booting into diagnostic mode and see what the HDDScan says

I have a feeling that Elicia does not have a HDD. I somehow think that she has a 2nd gen iPod touch. Safari was not available on the 2nd gen ipod...
