MacBook Pro 13" (2015) SSD upgrade using adapter

Is it possible to upgrade the 2015 Macbook Pro 13- inch using an adapter? The SSD modules with Apple's proprietary interface are very, very expensive. Therefore, I would like to buy a SATA or PCIe module (size M.2) and an adapter to fit it in the Macbook. Is that possible? If yes, any thing I need to consider?

Apple uses a Proprietary PCIe 2.0 x4 blade SSD. The best solution outside of buying a used Apple SSD is to buy the OWC: MacBook Pro with Retina Display 13" & 15" Late 2013, 2014, & 2015 as they are the only 3rd party that makes a replacement. That is what I recommend.

As for using some adapter to host a M.2 SSD, our testing showed they just don't cut it.

@danj Thanks for the reply. The Blade SSDs cost 2x to 4x of normal M.2 modules in the EU. Therefore, they are not an option for me. What do you mean by "they just don't cut it"? Are they just slower or do they work unreliable or not at all?

Thanks in advance! :)

Sadly all of the above... we encountered errors and slowness in our testing. I wouldn't trust them.

OWC is the best choice other than getting an Apple SSD.

If space is your issue how about getting a Thunderbolt or USB3 external SSD drive. We've been using Samsung's T3 drives. Leave your apps on the internal and use the external for your data.

Apple makes sure that third party upgrades won't work well with the exception of OWC. It's in their financial interest. The M2 are competitively priced but Apple changes things just enough to insure they won't work, thus retaining their monopoly and price gouging.

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate your effort!! I was hoping there was an option. Apple still offers the 2015 as refurbished, but only with 128GB SSD and that is not enough for me. I was hoping for a budget solution. Buying a storage upgrade for nearly the same price as a new Dell XPS notebook is not worth it.
