Which chip on logic board can I change to reset SMC

My MacBook is running very slowly, and is basically unusable. Sometimes the fan runs so long and there is the kernel_task running constantly in memory.

My diagnostic at boot (holding down the D key) reveals PFM006 and PPN001 error, both relating to power management and SMC.

I have tried to reset the SMC by holding down the Shift-ctrl-option-power a million times, and that does not help. I put my SSD in my sisters mac which is exactly the same as my mac and it works fine, the SSD from her mac in mine, is the same result (slow). SO I assume it is a logic board issue, or hardware issue.

Which chip is the cause so I can take a look or replace.

Thank you for your help

Unplug the battery. Press and hold the power on button for 5 seconds. then hold the battery up again.

Thank you, but this did not work. I do think it is a hardware issue.

Well that does work, so you have something seriously wrong.

Consider a Depot Repair from Apple. You can get that if it has not has a major impact or liquid damage. Total cost with tax and shipping in Texas is $357. Call 1-800- MYAPPLE to request it. Total time is 4 days.

I had the PFM006 error, too. Fans were rotating at maximum speed, process “kernel_task” was around 500%. This happened after a battery replacement.

The trackpad cable had a very small damage. Therefore, its sensor weren’t able to report their status (palm rest, temperature etc.). So, the system thought there was a temperature issue and fired up the fans. But this didn’t help (still no response from the sensors), so the kernel restarted over and over.

After implementing a new Trackpad cable everything returned to normal. “SMC” was just fine all the time - the error code was misleading in this case.

I agree, since first answering this question I have run into multiple error on these machines that were caused by defective trackpad cables.

what model are you using? i get the same error and symptoms on an 11,5 and also suspect the trackpad cable as being culpable

Thanks, how did you implement a new trackpad cable? I want to try this. Thanks so much.
