Will replacing the headphone jack assembly fix this?

So my iPhone has had quite a bit of shock trauma and now when I plug anything into the headphone jack I get snatches of the song I'm playing but mainly static and weird electrical noises, I get exactly the same noise when I plug it into a dock and play music through the usb port.

I know that the problem is somewhere inside the phone not at either end because the noise is the same, will replacing the headphone jack assembly fix this?

  • It's also having problems with the mic, not sure if that's related or not
  • Also the speaker works fine

thanks,

Stanley

If giving the jack a darn good clean/inspection, and doing the same for the dock gives you no joy in the sound department, then you could try replacing just the dock to fix the mic and external speaker problem.replace the headphone jack for the static. both these repairs are fairly cheap, the headphone is a bit more troublesome to replace though.

I think though that the problem will be on the motherboard- there have been several postings on here about damage to capacitor ?? near connection 4 which causes static to be heard.

No USB Connection after I broke little SMD element near connector #4!

It is possible that the IP3G-2059 Audio IC located on the logic board is bad. To test this, put your logic board into another iPhone and test the headphone jack and audio through the dock as well. If you have perfect sound, then the headphone assembly will need to be replaced. If it is not, then you will need to replace the chip on the board, send it for repair, or replace the board.

As for the mic, when you test the other problem make a test call or use the voice recorder to see how the mic is working properly. If it is, then the mic which is a part of the dock assembly is the culprit.

If the part you mentioned is malfunctioning would it cause the same sound to play through the iphone speaker? because I can play music through the speaker no problems
