The running boards won't stay down when I open the vehicle doors. How do I keep the running boards out permanently?

I have a new one for you all. My running boards work, as in, they go up and down. But the dash controls don't work. It is in auto and when i change setting, dash says it was changed but nothing actually happens and i checked the setting, it went back to auto by itself. I am at a loss on this.

Extend the running boards then pull the fuse . To find the fuse position use the owners manual , there should be a fuse panel diagram with fuse location. If you have trouble extending the running boards disconnect the actuators on the ends and swing the boards down manually . You will then need to fasten the running boards to make them ridged. Either by removing the actuator and replacing it with a proper length bar or disconnecting then manually extending the actuator and locking it in position . Hope this helps

Pulling the fuse worked, but when I put the fuse back in as I need to raise them (driving off-road and don't want them down) they will not raise. Is there some kind of reset needed? Thanks.

Dale, Just to add a bit to Jimfixer's answer. You can override the programming of these running boards through the Expedition's message center, making them remain extended at all times. The link below is the 2010 model, should be the same for yours, for instructions on programming the boards. Jim gave info. on what steps may have to be taken if boards stuck and actuators not functioning. Good luck. I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

I did this, but my 2011 Expedtion switches back to Auto soon as I drive it. Here was my issue, my running boards work with every door except my driver door. They would start to come out then go right back in. It is like it wasn't picking up that my driver door was open because when I would shut off my engine the radio would stay on even when shutting driver door. So could this be a sensor or issue with the driver door and not my running boards?

I have noticed the message screen also won't pick up that the driver door is ajar when running, but will when engine is shut off and no keys in ignition. I am at a loss!
