Keyboard & Trackpad not working

I have the same problem. The technician told me that logic board is faulty and needs replacement. It's out of warranty and the cost of the board and service charge is US$1,450/-.

So am absolutely clueless as to what to do

Hi Dan,

the problem started with erratic keyboard & trackpad freezing. I used to restart the machine and it used to work. this happened for a week after that it completely stopped working . After reboot it is looking for any bluetooth connected mouse or keyboard.

So i have to use an external keyboard and mouse to login. i tried all the methods like clearing NVRAM etc... nothing helped. Its not even saying any hardware failure.

I took the machine to the Apple authorized service centre. After testing the same they have told me that there is no spillage and the problem is with the logic board. It needs to be replaced. The cost will be US$ 1,450/- and it will take two to three weeks to complete the job as the spares are supposed to come from Apple.

Now i am trying to get the board from China. Its going to take another week or two before i get the same.

My question to the forum is can the logic board be a culprit. My worry is after changing the board will it resolve the issue or something else is required. I would like to know from the forum that did anyone faced this kind of problem and the same is resolved after changing the logic board.

And the unfortunate thing is this happened exactly a week after the warranty expiry. I am really perplexed as to how something of this expensive can fail just like that.. Also the apple diagnostics is not throwing any error even though the internal keyboard and trackpad is not working. That's really strange!

I will be very thankful to the forum if someone can give me any advice.

You wanna know what to do. Get a new macbook. A new macbook is cheaper than that.

Replace the trackpad cable. Commonly fails in 13" 2015 models with no explanation and costs £10, very easy to replace too. When this part fails, the keyboard also stops working, and it usually acts intermittently (both keyboard and trackpad sometimes working, sometimes not).

I guarantee this will fix your problem, it is not a logic board issue. I have answered this question a lot on iFixit (a lot of which have confirmed it has fixed the issue, if they did try out the fix), and receive a lot for repair with this same issue, which is always caused by the cable.

This hasn't worked for me. Still stuck using bluetooth keyboard and mouse!

@@correction - it has worked - numbskull forgot to put the clip down holding the open end of the cable

this has worked for me. however, after i replace the cable, it stops working after 3-6 months. this will be the 4th time i am replacing this $8 cable. it takes me 10-15 minutes to take everything apart and put it back together. why does it keep on breaking?

I have replaced my trackpad cable as well at the trackpad itself. It just doesn't work. Keyboard works absolutely fine. What are my options?
