Will not power up using ac adapter

When I plug the power adapter into the pc I get no light and it will not turn on, no sign of even trying to. With the battery in and power adapter connected it will just flash on for a few seconds and that is it.It does not show that the adapter is connected. Could it be that the cpu heat sink needs replacing?

I doubt the heat sink is your problem. I am including a link to download a manual for your computer. There should be a guide for troubleshooting your computer with specific suggestions. Good luck.

+ try using a multimeter to test the output of your AC adapter. The heat sink is probably the last thing to worry about.

None of the trouble shooting worked, but thanks for the link.

Yes i am getting power out of the ac adapter. I even used one that I had bought as a back up. I cleaned out the cooling fan and vents as they were about completely stopped up. Now it sometimes will come on for about 10 mins and then just shut down. Not much on laptops, but can you replace the connector where the adapter plugs in or is this a motherboard problem.

Terry, you got it working after you clean the fan etc.? I do not know about your particular one, but a lot of the HP's s have severe overheating issues. Have you tried one of those laptop coolers and to elevate your laptop with a set of feet to increase air circulation? Just a thought, but if you increase the time the computer stays on at least you can narrow your problem to an overheating issue. Just my 2 cents....good luck

Thanks. yes used to use one all the time. Now it has gone back to the pc not even showing the adapter hooked up to it. So it may not be just an overheating problem now.

Hit power on and it flashes right back off. It is going back and forth on me here. Not sure if it would be worth the money to fix.

I am with you on that one. I do believe that you are overheating. Sometimes fixing it is not the smartest economical solution but could be fun if you find what you need on place like eBay etc. All the best to you and your laptop...Merry Christmas
