Water damaged for many years, still repairable?

I just found my old iPod touch 3rd gen and I was wondering if it was repairable. I had dropped it in the toilet(for less than 5 seconds and instantly put in a bag of rice for 2 days) many(4-5 years) ago. I was wondering if it would be even possible to have someone repair it to a fixing manner without losing any data. Yes, the iPod will charge, but when trying to power on you get some type(maybe white idk) of screen of death, meaning its water damaged. Anyway, I just want to know if its repairable at all.

Update (04/13/2017)

Hi! Thanks for the responses! I just found out it is actually a iPod Touch 2g! So, not sure if that changes anything at all but i also just tried to plug in the iPod and it gets EXTREMELY hot by the connector.

If the data isn't that important to you, you can take it apart yourself. It's kind of a fun thing to do and it shouldn't cost you a thing. If you take it apart without damaging it, check for any corrosion on the board. If you see any, use an old toothbrush, dip it in 91 or 99% isopropyl alcohol and gently clean the corrosion off. You can even clean the entire board for the best results if you want. After that, give it like 5 or 10 minutes to dry and put it together and test it. If you did everything correctly, it should work successfully. That guide will show you how to remove the logic board to clean it.

Hi Carson,

I believe that the best way to find out is just to simply take it to a repair shop and tell them about what happened and they will have a look at it and tell you if it is repairable. If it still charges it's a good sign that it can possibly be repaired without loosing any data that is stored on your device.

Daniel.

A repair shop? What is it about that advice that I find very distasteful, disrespecting and disgusting about someone (a newbie) going to a DIY site and telling people to use a repair shop? Kind of negates the whole purpose of this sites' existence, doesn't it?
