How do I zoom in/smooth on SFM without scrolling wheel

I am currently downloading SFM and watched a tutorial. Apparently you need a scrolling wheel to smooth and zoom in and out. I only have a trackpad and was wondering if there were alternate ways to smooth and zoom like changing controls
