Replacing screen after teardown, adhesive needed?

After placing the screen back in the unit after removing it, is adhesive needed for it to stay in place? The reason I ask is because the initial step is to heat up the glue to remove the screen. Can the existing adhesive be reheated with the heat gun to hold and seal the screen back in?

Thanks!

The old adhesive CAN work but if the screen is cracked and there are bits of glass in it like mine then it is difficult to reuse the adhesive. The difficult part is finding adhesive and applying it since the edges are so small. I just went without any additional adhesive and it still sticks pretty well though I can tell it's not stick 100%.

If anyone know what adhesive to use and how to apply it in very small quantities that would help.

It seems like the factory adhesive used it like a black sticky tape. And putting down a width of 1 to 2 mm of it on the thin edge will be VERY difficult.

Contact cement or double sided tape will work.

Just make sure that it's Scotch 3M.

If you apply Contact cement, use a 1mm fine brush like the children water color brushes and apply it to both sides(the housing and the glass). Let it sit for about 10 to 15 minutes then apply them together and after let it cure for at least 2 hours. But before all that make sure you clean the housing and the glass with 60%-alcohol, 40%-water mixture.

Now the double side option is a little tricky but a quicker insulation. You'll need a x-acto blade 11(make sure it's a new blade) and a double sided tape roll. Clean the housing and the glass with 60%-alcohol, 40%-water mixture. Use a Q-tip to clean them. Roll the tape around the inner housing, with the x-acto blade trim out the extra tape from the edges but be-careful that you don't damage any wires, ribbons, etc,. Once you done then apply them together.

The good thing about using Scotch 3M tape and contact cement is that its identical to original adhesive used.

Well hope that helps. Good luck with that.
