I've heard a bunch of things about the 7 models. Trying to track down something concrete

door

Yes but I had to purchase a screw set since I couldn't get the screw out of the original

door

Iphone 7 home buttons are solid state so don't click, that's normal. Clicking is actually simulated by the Taptic Engine motor. Replacement buttons won't work at all.

door

So I just gotta buy a new phone??

door

More than likely you have to either reconnect the home button cable or replace the taptic engine completely.

On iPhone 7, replacement home button is ABSOLUTELY USELESS. The only purpose is to fill the empty hole.

Since the button is touch and force sensing based instead of a physical switch, the pressing signal is transmitted through the encrypted data link, replacement button won't have Touch ID as previous, or button function either, it's just a dead peace of sapphire, sitting there to look nice.

So my 3D Touch won't work anymore?

door

Not unless you take it back to Apple, provided if they accept repairing this device.

door

They won't accept it anymore since my warranty is voided

door

OOW screen repairs for untouched devices are possible for $149, however they won't touch the device if they find out that you tried to repair it yourself, so the home button is likely dead forever.

door

In fact the OOW whole device replacement price for iPhone 7 Plus is only $349, so I don't think ifixit's pricing for the iPhone 7 Plus screen at $349 make any sense at all. Maybe in the future ifixit will reduce the price once a stable supply is established, but the pricing now is pointless.

You'll want these. Sounds like they're regular Phillips screws. But the size is important. I guess I could mail you some...

Just kidding. They're the new screws

I know there new I have all four screws in there now but it's still not working my 3D Touch isn't even working either I found out yesterday so can the screen digitizer be the cause becaus I brought it aftermarket instead of the oem

door

The 3D Touch is because of the display...also, I haven't worked ok an7 yet. But if it's like the 6S, it could be the cable that's interfering with your home button

door

I hope they fix this home button issue with the Taptic Engine because I can't buy another $1000 phone

@tomchai then why does they have it removeable? If you can't put it on a new display?

@benjamen50 so why is everybody having all this trouble with it? Some people are saying they put it back on the original, and it still doesn't work. Doesn't get me excited to start working on em

door

Actually scratch that. I think it's best to do iPhone 7 screen replacements with home button assembled together.

door

Then it would lose Touch ID?

door

It's not intended to be removed, it just comes in its own piece and the factory has to put them together.

In theory you can retain the home button and put it onto a new screen, but new home buttons from OEM supplierswill never work at all in any sense.

Apple replaces the entire front half as a set so they don't care about this.

door

I'm sorry @tomchai I realize it sounds like I'm asking the same question over and over. So the home button could work on a third party display, but it probably won't?

I haven't actually worked on a 7 yet, and I know the home button is not the same as the previous phones. However, I would suspect that some debris is causing the home button to be stuck. This has often been the case when I find this problem after I repair other iPhones.

ill just buy a screen on here because I brought one from fixez and I've found out that the screen was a aftermarket item is the screen on here oem or aftermarket?

door

But the iPhone 7 home button does not really physically click it gives haptic feedback mimicing a home button press via vibration motor.

I think it works via contacts and a screw that is torqued specifically for it to connect properly when the home button is pressed down.

I haven't seen the inside of a iPhone 7 screen so I wouldn't know but that's my guess.

door

It I've repaired my iPhone 7 screen and there is a tri point screw in the middle of it and I tried screwing the screw in and it wouldn't so I just left it out idk and there are 4 screws that hold down the home button bracket as well

door

My home button doesn't even give a haptic feedback at all I don't know why

door

I think the middle torque screw is needed especially for the home button to work at all. Originally on the old screen it had it in right?
