New battery not charging

I replaced both the battery and logic board

The computer will run if plugged in and has the green LED lit on MagSafe plug.

The battery is new from Apple but I had the same problem with it not charging so replaced the logic board.

Have tried resetting the SMC and everything on Apples site.

Any Ideas on this?

Try an SMC reset both ways.

Before resetting the SMC

Reset the SMC only after you've tried all other standard troubleshooting. Try each of the following steps in this order before you reset the SMC. Test the issue after completing each troubleshooting step to see if the issue still occurs.

Press Command-Option-Escape to force quit any application that's not responding.

Put your Mac to sleep by choosing Sleep from the Apple menu. Wake the computer after it's gone to sleep.

Restart your Mac by choosing Restart from the Apple menu.

Shut down your Mac by choosing Shut Down from the Apple menu.

If your Mac isn't responding, force the Mac to shut down by pressing and holding the power button for 10 seconds. You'll lose any unsaved work in any open applications.

If you're using a Mac notebook computer that's having issues related to power or the battery:

Unplug the power adapter from your Mac and the electrical outlet for several seconds, then plug it back in.

Shut down your Mac.

Remove and re-insert the battery, if it's removable.

Restart your Mac.

If the issue still isn't resolved, you might need to reset the SMC. See the indicators and steps below.

Reset the SMC on Mac notebook computers

First, determine whether the battery is removable. Mac notebook computers that have a nonremovable battery include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, MacBook (Late 2009), and MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015) and later. Learn more about Mac notebook batteries.

If the battery is nonremovable:

Shut down your Mac.

Unplug the MagSafe or USB-C power adapter from your computer.

Using the built-in keyboard, press Shift-Control-Option on the left side of the keyboard, then press the power button at the same time. Hold these keys and the power button for 10 seconds.

Release all keys.

Reconnect the power adapter.

Press the power button again to turn on your Mac.

If the battery is removable:

Shut down your Mac.

Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from your computer.

Remove the battery. (Learn about removing the battery in MacBook and MacBook Pro computers.)

Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.

Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.

Press the power button to turn on your Mac.

The LED on MagSafe power adapters might change colors or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

Ok I did all these steps but no luck. The clock has to be reset every time I disconnect the power cord. I know its old but I like the configuration of this year better than whats come out recently, guess I should shop for a used one but since this one works for everything except the battery I have kept it. Is there a clock battery someware inside? I have changed these on PCs and had it work. Thanks for your help

No clock (PRAM) battery on this model. That is handled by a capacitor on the logic board which does not appear to be working. Your wi-fi network probably needs to be reset every time too.

Please download and run Coconut Battery found here (hit the download 3.4 not the green download) let us know or post your results:

Yes, it helps. See the load cycles! It has never cycled. It is not charging and never has. But it sees the battery. This is a tough one if you replaced the logic board. The only remaining suspects are the mag-sage adapter and the mag-safe port. Would you add to you question and give us a more complete history of the machine?

I spilled water on it, dryed it out and it worked for a while then stopped. went to a mac repair place and got a magsafe dc in board and installed. Then was able to run on plug in power and it some times charged. When it stopped charging I got a new battery install at the apple store, this is the battery in there now. It never charged but shows up as you can see. Then I replaced the logic board and thats where I am at now. I could try another DC in board but it would like to test this one out some how. Im about ready to give up on this project but the laptop works fine on plug in power, it gets a little hot but has aways done that. Thanks Sarah

Try contacting Apple again, there could be a small chance you just got a dud.

Probably a bad logic board not detecting battery or charging the battery,

door

The logic board is bad. Either get it repaired by diagnosing the board and replacing components or get someone else to fix it. Buying another logic board is just going to be another board because nobody sells good boards as they can sell a whole asssembled MacBook for more.

when I first got it from them it worked fine but ran down and did not charge. I have a hardware program that reports HW sensers and batt conditions which reports it as healthy but not charging and the OS as poor. Batt at 102% health.

New logic board and charger

Apple will tell you it's a legacy machine and they won't even work on it. To old.
