New Mac's Battery dead. Is it the software or the hardware?

I got my hand on this new macbook pro for about half day and right after my update to the latest Sierra OS, the battery status turned to "replace now" and also the computer would shut off if i unplug the chord. It is not a pleasant experience. As there is no apple store in the country, returning it isn't as easy. So, what is likely cause of this?

What country are you in. Did you buy it at a retail store or did it fall off a truck? Is it new?

door

yes it is new. I bought it at a retail store here in Cambodia.

I agree here! It's not worth trying to fix this your self as parts and the knowledge on how to service this system is just not out there yet.

This is a known-issue, so it should go under warranty.

Some MacBook Pro 2016 users have reported the same issue, you need to replace the battery or replace the hole unit.

This is not a software issue, it's a hardware issue.

Common Battery errors from the OS (Windows and Mac) are actually caused from the charger, try replacing the charger with a new OEM charger and allow the computer 6+ hours to charge before booting.

This may fix your problem.

Dustin, did you actually read the question?

Actually i did, the converter in the power supply can be running at the incorrect amperage and the charge unit in the laptop will not recognize it and will still power the device, but will not trigger the charge function of the battery.. .This occurs often in many devices due to the fact that most converters are re-furbished and sold with new systems.

What happens is.

1. the converter is not distributing the correct Amperage to the notebook.

2. the notebook is receiving enough power to function so it does power on.

3. the notebook recognizes it has power and attempts to charge the incomplete battery.

4. the start to charge fails due to the incorrect amperage.

5. the notebook reports a battery failure for unable to charge.

Not saying this is 100% the problem but it is the cheapest to start with in diagnostics...

Dustin, This system uses a USB-C connection for power which could be the Apple power unit or some other source. I would expect Retro is using the supplied power unit. But in either case it's not something I would dicker with as its still too new.
