Hi, What is the model number of your Philips TV?

To add to @dabrien 's answer, there may also be a channel up/down button on the TV that you may wish to check as well.

You might want to check out You Tube, they have videos assdressing this problem

I have an LG flat screen TV that keeps going up in channels and was doing the same thing with the volume but I did finally get it to stop doing that just can't figure out how to get it to stop changing channels on me and I need to know what or how I should fix it , like I said I did get it to stop going up on the volume by pryin the volume buttons out but it doesn't seem to be working on the channel issue please help me in possibly fixing the problem , where I don't have to take it and have it fixed , opened to suggestions

Hi @savagemustang ,

Have you tried removing the batteries from the remote control unit to see if the channel movement stops?

door

I’ve been having the same problem for a few years. I determined today that it is related to audio sounds. When watching a movie with high pitch sounds it was causing the channel to change, menu to pop up, etc. Rewinding the movie it was happening every time. Loud screeching sound.

Just need to see if there is a fix.

@anish ,Anish, Remove batteries from remote to verify that the channel select button on remote is not stuck. If still changing channels check the channel button on TV itself, press the channel button several times quickly/repeatably to see if it is stuck and will start working. If this does not do it, try a reset, hold down the menu button on the top or side of your TV for at least 10-15 seconds. A on screen menu will appear asking you to enter the time, date and location settings. Follow the on screen instructions, and once completed your TV will reset to factory settings. If TV under warranty return for repair/replacement/refund as the board inside TV may be faulty. If out of warranty, with TV unplugged, wait a couple hours and remove back and locate wires going to the on board channel changing switch/button and unplug it. Re assemble TV and see if it will stop changing channels and work off remote, if it does you know the switch /button assy. is faulty. Good luck.

I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

My problem was fixed very simply by removing the batteries from another remote control that was conflicting with my Samsung TV.

@anish could be your IR board. Anything will only be a guess until you let us know what model your Philips TV is.

I tried the suggestion to enter in one channel repeatedly, which I did 4 or 5 times. It has appeared to correct the problem. Good luck.

Hi @djb1995

If it has CH Up/Dn buttons on the TV, with the TV turned off try pressing each button a few times or more just in case it is a sticking button that is the cause of the problem.

If still no good, when the remote arrives, with the power disconnected from the TV remove the cover and access the board with the control buttons on it and disconnect it from the mainboard and see if that stops the problem.

I'm not sure if this is how it is set up in your TV as you didn't state the model number but usually the control buttons aren't directly mounted on the mainboard.

Be careful when you're working in the back of the TV since it is a CRT there is very high voltage stored in the picture tube and also the neck of the tube is very fragile so be careful if you go near it

The root cause: The circuit on the buttons panel of the right corner of the TV is messed up.

The solution:

1) Disconnect the power and all other cables from your Samsung LCD TV.

2) Place the TV on the carpet facing down

3) Remove all the screws from the back panel. This is easier said than done. You need the right screwdriver. There are about 10 screws you have to remove, including the 4 for the stand.

Caution: There is high voltage inside the TV. So be careful what you touch.

4) Near the TV buttons on the right corner, there is a white+blue wire that connects from the panel to the Infrared receiver circuit. Here is a picture of the same for your reference. DISCONNECT THAT WHITE+BLUE WIRE.

NOTE: This will stops the button panel from working. But your remote will still work and you can use it to change channels, volume ..everything.

If this solution worked for you, kindly send me a Thank you note at vpkamath@gmail.com

I like to know when my efforts help somebody.

This can't be the issues because our neighbors tvs were doing the same thing. 3 different types of TVs! We think was the Arris router because we just switched over to fiber optic and has not happened again yet! The two tvs in this household are brand new in the last month, can't see that they would have issues really.

Disconnect tv (unplug it). Wait a few minutes. Press the power button on the tv, not on the remote. Press it for half a minute or so. Plug tv back. Turn it on. This has worked on my Vizio tvs more than once. I think they call this procedure a " hard reset."
